Default Sport Compact in South Africa (hi-pic content)

Hi guys, we all know Sport Compact is going through a tough time in the States but in South Africa, it's grown quickly without any red tape. Magazines and local newspapers give it good coverage and the times and speeds have improved dramatically. Spectator crowds range up to 5 thousand on any given Sunday while Cape Town sees in excess of 15,000 when the much stronger Johannesburg contingent pay a visit. Few years back, one Joburg vs Cape event pulled in 30,000 spectators.

The industry has grown in leaps and bounds too and there are more American-based tuners and companies putting their full back-up and support into our local stars. Big names such as Mike Laskey, Stephanie Eggum and Bill Schimmel have shown good support to us. A prime example would be Africa's quickest Unibodied FWD named Nasen Padayachee, who after spending a few weeks with Steph, has finally dipped into the eights with his GM-based Opel Kadett. Even though you guys are going through a tough time, rest assured that your efforts have not gone noticed in South Africa. Here's a few pics of some of our local talent:

Thanks. The South African Rand to the Dollar is not great. Importing stuff from the States does become very pricey, so most of us do improvise to keep the costs down. Where you guys probably buy the stuff off the shelves, we normally have to wait quite some time for our orders to be shipped over, and always at a serious price. Even though we could order direct from the States, some opt to go the cheaper route, for example, making proper chromoly sideshafts and massive CV's takes no less than two months to manufacture here. The one-piece bonnet and fenders pieces take over a month to complete. Us South Africans can become rather impatient at times - haha!

Our times aren't that impressive, but please do take into consideration that we race 7,000ft above sea level, and our tracks have rubber only up to the 60ft mark. The rest of the track is tar. Wheelspin is not an option here.

It's always great to see drag racing from around the world. The large crowd is nice to see also.

Thats it!......I found where Im moving to. I love how anything goes over there. Race what you brought. You put a dsm engine in a honda they will boot you over here. Seems like they will let you swap out anything you want.
