Default Ignition Coil Keeps Going Bad

This weekend on my way home i came up to some traffic and noticed if i tapped the throttle the car would die. It seemed to me at the moment that it I wasnt getting enough spark for the fuel and basically flooding out.

I pulled my plugs and they confirmed that. Started by replacing the cap and rotor to no avail. Went a bit deeper to find that the coil looked as if it had been overheated. There was a bulge in the side of it which obviously is not normal. Replaced the coil and it started back up.

Drove back the 4 hours to where I work/live and as I get to my place I notice the same thing happening. The coil is done yet again.

So I sit her kind of stranded with no car, no way in to work and a problem that seems as if it will continue repeating itself.

I have heard of them failing before but not two within 24 hours of each other. Any ideas as to what could cause this? It almost seems if it is overheating or being over worked some how. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Motor and car?

Sounds like an internal short. Condition of all the distributor wiring is OK?

It is a B18C1 in a 96 civic hatch. The wiring appears to be ok to the distributor.

sounds like something within distributor or not hooked up right - easiest fix replace the whole distributor
