Default clutch not going into gear

i have a 89 honda civic dx. I went to go somewhere this morning and the car started, I backed out of the driveway and started to go onto the street and it wouldnt go. while the car was on I couldn't get it to go into any gear not even reverse. with the car off I could put it in gear but it wouldnt start. with the car on I finally got it to go into reverse and the car died. I am hoping it is something that can be simple to fix. Any help is greatly appreciated.

check your axles to make sure they didnt pop out of the tranny, make sure the cv joints are still in one piece i remember one of my axles cv was just destroyed and would just spin and the other side of the same axle in the spindle would be motionless, and also check your axle nuts, loose axles nuts can cause that too.... i dont know about the stalling though....

What motor do you have in it? Have you taken the transmission off or messed with the flywheel? Is it stick or auto? It sounds to me that your flywheel may be loose, if you hear a grinding/rattling noise it's your flywheel bolts grinding up against your clutch.

I thought your car was an ef i dident know you had a hydrolic tranny or i would have told you to check the slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder

Sounds like a pressure plate problem if it happened all at once. If it was gradual I would guess clutch cable.

(if you have a hydro tranny) first things first. check your clutch master to see if you have fluid. if you do, is there any fluid leaking on the driver side floor board right by the piston on the clutch pedal? if not then bleed the clutch through the slave cylinder...see if you get any air bubbles out of it. if that doesn't fix it. my guess would be one of two things i have done. bent my clutch fork and wouldn't go into any gear without grinding and i had my pressure plate seize to my clutch disk.

cable clutch....check and see if the cable is either stretched or broken or just not adjusted properly. if thats not it. like i said before clutch problems...or check your flywheel bolts if you here any grinding while in gear..

also try putting your car into reverse of first while the car is OFF, and then start and drive it in that gear.

tell me what happens.

GL.

That is a good point as well. I had to repair the manual pedal cluster that I swapped into my EF (Auto to manual swap), it was cracked around the clutch pedal pivot point, and was tweaked pretty bad.

i have a clutch cable...should have mentioned that. in my honda book it said to check the transaxle fluid and when we did he put more in but I dont think it was enough. My car starts and the next day it went into gear like 10 different times. The following day it wouldnt go into gear. I have tried to start it in gear and it will turn over but not start. That day it was going into gear I could hear a rattling and when I pressed on the clutch the rattling stopped. I do not hear the rattling now.

hi I bet it's your pressure plate springs.

If you turn it off stick it in gear and give it gas with the cltuch in..... it should start/run but then you shouldn't be able to get it out of gear....untill you turn it off.

a cable clutch doesn't have clutch fluid.... nor a slave cylinder. nor a master cylinder... have you checked your clutch cable?

so the springs on the pressure plate or the actual clutch disc itself broke? what clutch did you replace it with?
