Default EG hatch- best swap for 200whp

hey guys I'm new to the civic, well heck piston engines in general......been a RX-7 owner(turbo and NA) since I was able to drive. I recently traded my S5 TII for a EG hatch....it's got the crappy d15b8 engine in it....i don't want a beast of a car, just about 200whp to have occasional fun in. My question is what is the best swap for my car....I want VTEC and I want the swap to be easy as in a weekend swap, yes I will be boosting btw. I am leaning toward the B18C1 but if there is a easier choice I would like to know

If you're going boost, stay with D or B18B to achieve 200+ whp.

if you plan on boost on a stock engine, go with a b18b1 for boost. if you plan on keeping it N/A go with the gsr.

You trade your S5 for a civic. I demand pictures of both cars.

I looked at getting a b18c1 for my car but I decided on a b16a sir engine and I couldnt be happier. Its a jdm engine and it opens vtec like no otha. Plus its like 1000 dollars cheaper that you could stick into a better turbo.

Stay away from the torqueless b16a.

Balance is better for a daily driven car...get a b18b and boost the **** out of it. The stock b18b block can easily handle up to 250whp with boost, and of course you get much more torque with the added displacement.

Good luck.

Yea, 200whp is very easy for an Ls with stock internals and would be fun but also still very drivable.

Yeah...or the b18b is CHEAPER than a b16.

Because:

1: The swap goes for 4-5k
2: making it get 200whp is another 2k
3: you spent $6,500 to get what d-series turbo guys do with $1,300.

Boost is the "best" cheapest way to get 200whp.

i vote b18b.

EDIT: On a side note: Screw VTEC.

holy crap you honda guys are awesome!!!! if i was to post this on rx7 club they wouldve said SEARCH but im glad you guys understand that i have no experience with honda engines and how they react to boost.....so b18b huh ill look into that, im gonna have about 4k to spend so i'll prob go with b18b with 330cc's and a DSM turbo. well, it;ll be another 2 months. thanks for the replies and here are pics of the s5 with TII conversion that i trader for a beater hatch......
i know i got jipped really bad but i wanted a eg hatch SO bad. Plus RX-7s only get like 18mpg. i can make my hatch just as fast and get like 30mpg.

It does not take 2000 dollars to get an R motor into the 200whp range.

+1 on that.

People say not to boost a b18c1 or c5 because of the Compression numbers the are stock. This is a load of crap. I personal know and run with owners of these motors that have boosted up 8-9 pounds safley and reach well over 200hp and run 12+ in a quarter.

What the B16 lack in torque in makes up in other. There is no other motor out there with the rod to stroke ratio the b16 has, Stock they lay down 160-170hp. With a little work (mainly head) it can make over 200. All a CTR is a b16 with high compression and valve train and cams, nothing more.

B18B + Boost. Simple.

You can pick up a B18B for dirt and piece together your own turbo kit.

It's actually very very simple and you will be surprised how many cars you will be faster than.

For Example: My buddy has an SRT-4 Stage 3 ACR blah blah blah. Other buddy has a Eg Coupe with B18B, .50 trim turbo. lol thats it. No BOV/Wastegate/Intercooler. Surprisingly the dude whoops the SRT that has over 300hp.

I am not turning this into a debate. Just telling my experience with the setup.

well definitely no body kit for me.....the rx7 was the first car i ever kitted and i hated it. i hit everything in town and all it does is add unneeded weight. maybe a front lip, that's it. i'm not into the ricer thing no more, i want a F1 grocery go getter, haha. yea, im starting to dig the sleeper thing....i just want to run at least high 13s.....maybe i can just turbo the d15b8 i have to 2psi and lay down 70whp one time before it blows haha.
h22a seems like to much work
b18c5 too much for what you get
b18c1 is still an option
b18b gets my vote so far
now i hear a lot of good and bad stories about the D series, so far it seems like i should go b but how do these d engines handle boost.

and an h22a is WELL worth the work

it only weighs 30lbs more than a b series and has a HELL of alot more torque
