what screw do i have to tighten to adjust my idle?
b16 in a eg...

not sure about b series motors but on my d series you adjust the 2 nuts on your throttle body. you'll see a cable with the 2 nuts and loosen or tighten to adjust how open the throttle body is... kinda hard to explain... i made a picture of my motor and i actually spent time doing this haha

If you want to set the idle, follow your throttle cable to the cam on the throttle body, look at the bottom of that cam on the screw which it rests, thats the screw to adjust. If your wanting adjust the play you may feel in your pedal, then d[sick]steena has your answer above in the picture, hope that helps.

Wrong for idle adjustment, thats just the tensioner to reduce slack. Its not a good idea to use that to adjust the idle.
Theres a screw that is on the TB itself which rasies/lowers idle.

^Yeah, probably a 1/4" wide, flat-blade screw....I can't remember which way you turn it to go up or down, but you'll figure it out I'm sure

hmm never heard of that way actually... but its never needed to be adjusted that much, so far so good on my end idles at 900 everytime...

yeah, i played with those screws in the picture on my b16, but it didnt really do anything, but imma do it again, jus play with it till its right....

yeah, i don't recommend you doing either. why do you need to adjust your idle for? unless you are doing some heavy tuning, you should never have to adjust the idle. if you are having idle issues, then go ahead and fix it, don't just adjust the idle.

as for the throttle cable, that is used to only adjust the tension on the cable not the idle.

Actually, i have a question regarding that.
My '94 del sol s ( D15B7 ) used to idle super high.. then i did the FITV fix. It idles at ~920rpm... that seems a little high for a 1.5l motor considering my '99 civic EX idles around 700rpm. Is this normal? should i go looking for this mysterious throttle body screw? i was thinking about replacing the iacv..

Neptronix, if your idle is around 920 all the time, try the adj. screw, but if its fluctuationg a decent bit around 920 then maybe clean he iacv.

Thanks dude. I'll hunt down that screw tomorrow.
Got a feeling that my iacv still needs cleaning though. FITV fixed the idle fluctuation, but while driving, car idles at ~1300rpm with the clutch pushed in.. when it comes to a complete stop, it idles at 900rpm again. weird.

yeah the olny reason im tryin to sdjust my idle is to fix it, it idles between 0-100, when i come to a stop light, put it in nuetral, when it revs down, it goes all the way, practically dies, batery light pops on then off, then pops up a tiny bit to 100rpm. thats y i gotta adjust it up some....

adjusting the throttle cable is a good way to adjust your idle in a minor way, i would not recommend adjusting that screw to play with your idle, ive had so many friends touch that screw and their car never idled right after that, so i say you should just adjust those nuts and be on your way unless its idling very radically...

probably most people adjust that screw on a very old car. dirt and other things might have gotten in between the threads. i adjust it after i have cleaned out the TB, FITV, IAC, and fix any vacuum leaks if any.

sounds like you need a valve adjustment then.

dunno 'bout that, man.
I just cleaned out my IACV with some throttle body cleaner and some canned air and adjusted the idle down to 750rpm.. other than what sounds like an occasional miss during the first 15 seconds of warmup, she idles steady at 750rpm

dude at pepboys to me to loosen these screws in the red, and if you twist the distributor forward it ups your idle and move the distributor counterclockwise it lowers your idle?

that has nothing to do with adjusting the idle, and everthing to do with you messng some ones car up.

leave the idle screw alone. if you have idleing issues, you should fine the source of the problem instaed of compensating for it.

yeah dude at pepboys insisted in doing that to fix my idle problem, i didnt see how ithe distributor had anything to do with my idle since the TB pulley is what you move to give it gas, i always knew the idle screw was on the TB jus didnt know what one exactly!!!![

fast idle thermo valve, search and you will find ways to tell if its your FITV or IACV

this is how to adjust your idle, i had to fix mines, had a bunch of people suggest stuff, but this is how to do it THE RIGHT WAY!!!
