Anyway I had to replace the power steering pump on a 98 Accord 4cyl. Now there is obviously air in the system.

Does anyone know HOW TO bleed the power steering pump so that there is no air inside the system?

Or can direct me to some sort of manual/source?

all you need to do is turn the steering wheel to full lock both sides. that should take care of it.

yes the system is auto bleed, just turn it full lock a few times and its clear

wondering how can I tell once air is gone from the system? Because the reservoir is stil slushing and swirling around. its like a vacumn. When I look at my other hondas, the reservoir seems to be idle, it isnt swirling around nor jumping....

is it the same for a 93 accord LS ???? ( bleed the air from the power steering)

Should bleed itself, but the foam takes awhile to settle. It won't settle while it's running because the pump keeps it churned up. You need to turn it off. When it's settled, start the engine for like 10 seconds then let it settle again. Repeat a few times.

Okay heres an update to the situation...

The power steering pump seems to be fine now, what I mean is that there is probably no air in the system since we bleed the system a few times by disconnecting the oil line hose and pumping fluid out of the system. And then added fluid and kept turning from lock to lock. The reservoir seems good now, the fluid doesn't jump and splash around like it previously did. Nice.

Now for the bad and puzzling part.

1. There's this annoying sound which seems like humming or a really old metal turning. The refurb. ps pump didnt come with a pulley, so we had to use the old pulley on the refurb. ps pump.

2. The sound resonates in the car as you drive. It doesn't sound like its normal. When you pull from a stop, the car vibrates and increases in its sound. Sounds like an aftermarket exhaust somewhat, even though all we just have is a CAI.

Now I dunno where the hell this noise is coming from. My mother puts it best....
"I can live with the sound, but the car doesnt feel normal...It feels like there is resistance like something is pulling the car back when I accelerate".

The noise dies down a little once you past 60kmh, but just a little since RPM's are down.

Now could it be because my dad changed the timing belt and waterpump? Could it be that the timing is out of wack, like retarded? Because my dad just "marked" where the old was and then changed it. Obviously that went wrong so my uncle fixed it a little...But no one ever checked for the proper ignition timing. I know you can change ignition timing via turning the distributor....

I dunno, if anyone can suggest what they think we should do, it'll be great! Thanks H-T.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when we turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, it hums too and when its at the end of the lock, it gives a whiny sound....

You could always pick up a Haynes Manual from an Autozone/Pep Boys etc. for like 14 bucks... That will at least tell you what the timing should be set at. On my '93 the manual tells me i should set it to 15 degrees plus or minus 2 degrees. But the manuals are pretty good and the one i have has a diagnostic section in the front for sounds etc.

For '98 the spark timing isn't adjustable at the distributor. The distributor mounts aren't even slottted. I think if you slot them yourself it won't change timing because it's controlled by the TDC sensor at the crankshaft.

Still, you should check to verify the camshaft timing. It's pretty easy by taking off the top timing cover.
