Default Rear-view mirror loose - How to tighten

Hi,

I have a '97 Honda Civic, and the rear view mirror seems to be awfully loose. It isn't loose enough to move during normal driving, but if I have to flip the switch to "dim" the mirror, the mirror moves all over the place, and in effect, the dimming doesn't work.

Is there a way to tighten the rear view mirror so it doesn't wiggle around so much?

On the civic, the rear view mirror isn't actually attached to the front window, it is actually attached above the windshield. If you look at:

I guess it is calling the bar that holds the mirror a "stay", but I don't see any way to adjust it.

Ok I just had to do this on my '98 civic

* get something flat and GENTLY pry the plastic piece that is against the headliner CORNER on the front (towards windshield)

Now remove the (3) philips head bolts.

Now that you have the whole rear view mirror in you hands....... there is a black plastic piece that covers the mirror ball adjustment...... there is a place to put a flat blade screwdriver and pry the piece off....

Now you have access to the adjustment..... the small philips bolt will adjust (tighten/loosen) the mirror........ If you tighten all the way and it is still too loose..... take the flat plate off and BEING CAREFUL...... SLIGHTLY bend the metal.... REMEMBER slightly....

Hope it works for you.... it worked for me

Nice - I have the same problem. I copy/paste all of these kind of things to a Word document and save to a file.

PS: Love the part about dog!

Sorry for the necropost, but I just did this fix ( 6th Gen (6G) Honda Civic Rear View Mirror Vibration Fix ) earlier this evening.

I used three layers, as one or two layers still seemed to be not as tight as I would want.

Saturday night will be the test when I drive home at night!
