Default The biggest OEM Honda brake upgrade ever - Custom mounted Acura RL calipers

Ladies and Gentlemen. As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a brake *****. I'm a big advocate of OEM Honda upgrades. They use OEM parts, there a lot cheaper than aftermarket setups, more powerful and reliable than big brake kits, and require inexpensive replacement parts as well as access to any type of pad/rotor style. Its come to my attention that a lot of new Civic Si owners are looking for brake upgrades. So.... now I'm working on the biggest OEM upgrade ever. The largest OEM Acura brakes are from the new Acura RL, a whole 12.6" rotor, and a BIG pad. This uses an aluminum 4 piston caliper. For those of you with 17s and 18s, I am working on a custom bracket to fit these to our cars.

Here's the main event. Weighing in at just over 8lbs loaded, all the way from Advics....here he is...the Acura RL caliper!

The 12.6" rotor

This is over an 11.8" rotor, redone to 4x100 (for older DX civics).

They will be available with the 11.8" and 12.6" rotors.

I aim to do a write up in the future, (as well as sell these as a kit), and retrofit them to my car. just FYI, this is bigger (and better) than the TL Brembo setup, it is not the same.

This setup has been completed in 11.8" and 12.6" form for 4x100. the ITR/Legend setup is still being tested.

This is the 11.8" form with the old civic DX knuckles, I don't have any mounted to a new civic knuckle, but I'll try and get some.

This is not a for sale thread, but if anyone is interested, PM me. These kits will be about a grand (unlike the aftermarket ones goin for 2-3k.) The 11.8" setup is being modded tomorrow. I expect to have this setup within three days. The 12.3" and 12.6" will be bolted together in about a weeks time.

The brackets have been tapped and I'm close to being done. Here is the brackets bolted to the caliper

And what has been made.

HERE IT IS!!!

This is an 11.8" rotor on a Civic DX knuckle and the RL calipers fitted with my custom bracket. If anyone is interested, all you have to do with the bracket, caliper, and rotors is get a pair of Civic DX knuckles from a 92-95 Civic (with ABS if yours has it so the Si with the 9.5" fronts) and you're set!

UPDATE: Now offering the hub-centering rings needed for this setup in 4x100 form, making it a complete setup.

UPDATE: The 12.6" and 11.8" 4 bolt forms are ready, but the 5x114.3 on the ITR/Legend are pending.

Very nice, but very unnecessary unless you have a crazy racecar or want extra points at the next car show.

If you're interested, I have a kit that clears 15s, and a bigger kit that clears 16s (and a few racing 15s).
I'll get clearence specs later, but for now, this is essentially for low offset 17s. (if you're running 15s or smaller, you probably wouldn't make use of this anyway.)

Well Im very interested I'd love a kit for 15s, and by the way how much do those RL brakes go for on average?

If the RL calipers are smaller than OEM Skyline/300ZX TT calipers the kit should fit with many after market 15" wheels.

SS Autoworks kit: 300mm (11.8") Honda rotors from the Mugen kit with 4 piston Skyline calipers and SS workhs billet bracket.

I shaved the Nissan off of the caliper for clearance but the ridge in the middle of the wheel hits the caliper. I am looking for a lower profile caliper. I have a set of FD3S RX7 calipers that are commonly used on Hondas but I haven't had the time to make them work with these rotors.

I would love to have a 4 piston OEM Honda caliper with 300mm rotor setup instead of this kit. Skyline brake pads are NOT cheap

No the RL caliper is bigger than that caliper, and I've seen the pad, it is definatly smaller than the RL pad. Based on the nature of how people make track cars, the RL brakes aren't meant for 15s. If you're running 15s, either you have a high profile tire (so the car isnt going to be a racecar anyway) or if the 15s have a low pro tire, its probably a small and lightweight car, that will lock the wheels all the time as the RL brakes stop SO well and that small of a car won't make use of its badass heatsink.

My car is 450+whp and will probably apex the 550whp mark after I get it shipped up from the small island. I use 215/50-15 ADVAN A048 SS compound for circuit/touge, 225/50-15 BFG's for Drag and 225/50-15 RE55S for street duty. I'm just trying to find something that will fit the Hayashi's better because I really want to keep these wheels.
