Default HOW TO: Remove the key in ignition/headlights on warning beeper.

The annoying beeper that reminds you that you have left your key in the ignition or your headlights on is inside you Integrated Control Unit (ICU) that is on the back side of your fuse panel under the dash. This can easily be removed.

*DISCLAIMER*Attempt this modification at your own risk. I will not be held responsible if you hurt or kill yourself doing this. While this a simple process, anytime you mess with electricity and airbags, you must be careful. *DISCLAIMER*

First, as always, disconnect the negative battery cable under the hood.

Remove the lower dash cover from under the steering column to reveal the fuse box. Remove the two 10mm bolts on either side.

Disconnect the connectors as shown.

Name: 000_1094.jpg
Views: 15161
Size: 104.9 KB

Gently, rotate the fuse box around to you can gain access to the back of it. Remove the connector shown on the far left of the picture below.

Size: 78.6 KB

Rotate the fuse box around a little more and remove the ICU from the back of the fuse box. You have to pry on either side to get it to come loose. It is easier if you pry from the end opposite the connector you removed earlier.

Size: 78.0 KB

Here is the back of the ICU removed from the fuse box. On the lower right of the case, you can see the hole to allow the beeper to sound in the cabin.

Name: 000_1097.jpg

Size: 61.1 KB

And the front.

Name: 000_1098.jpg
Views: 9277
Size: 63.4 KB

After gently prying open the ICU case, you can see the circuit board that is inside. The round black object in the top left corner is the beeper itself.

Name: 000_1105.jpg
Views: 8612
Size: 61.5 KB

Here is a shot of the board from the back.

Name: 000_1104-1.jpg
Views: 8236
Size: 64.3 KB

Carefully desolder the two joints (circled in red above) that hold the beeper unit in and remove it. Here’s how it looks from the front with the beeper removed.

Name: 000_1101.jpg
Views: 8729
Size: 70.5 KB

Here is a pic of the beeper removed from the board.

And another.

Name: 000_1099.jpg
Views: 8411
Size: 43.6 KB

Now reassemble the ICU and re-install it in the fuse box, reconnect everything and you are all set.

Put your key in the ignition and open the door and enjoy the sound of silence.

Sounds like a lot of trouble when you can just move your key to position II

Nice write-up though.

(Position II it beeps for 3 seconds and stops)

Good write-up

But I dont understand why anyone would go through so much trouble of removing something that says "Hey idiot...you forgot something".

Thanks for the write-up, but I'm also one of those people who would forget to leave my keys in the car without the beep.

I only find it annoying when I'm vacuuming the car.

You have to turn it to acc II to get the radio on. Which it then only beeps for ~3 seconds. Door open or closed.

way too much work!
pull the lower half of the steering column cover and cut the key sense wire and put a small toggle switch inline so you can turn it back on when you are done either cleaning your car with the doors open or being a jack-off and showing off to your friends...or turn the key to IGN

pretty soon you're gonna see a follow up thread...
HOW TO: jimmy your door locks cuz you locked your keys in your car AGAIN!
or
HOW TO: jump start a car cuz you left your lights on and it drained your battery AGAIN!

I'd probably be one of the idiots that leaves the keys in after I did this, but I do not feel it is a good thing to turn it to position II, just have bad feelings about it.

Good write up. I was thinking about this earlier today...I wouldnt want to disable the beep for when you leave your lights on, but doors open, and more annoying, seatbelt...those are just silly.

Heres a challenge;
-figure out how to keep the beep for the lights, but disable it for the doors+seatbelt.
-maybe do one for the sunroof too...someone left theirs open at school once and we dumped snow inside

Yeah I hate the key in ignition door open beep, but the one for the headlight5s is useful.
I always wondered how to do this though, good job!

Thats not that problem, its this one... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=290569

I did this, (and disabled the door switch) and have never run the battery down from the lights again! (used to happen a lot lol)

Try turning your key another turn, beeping stops after 3 seconds.

how about just taking it out?... when the secondary ignition is on the battery drains a lot quicker.... i wouldnt reccommend leaving it there for an extended amount of time.

I left mine on for 6-7 hours while I painted my grill and sideskirts, car started right up.

Good battery/connections > leaving radio on for 40 hours.

Not so much leaving my key in the ignition (have an aftermarket ignition in a different than stock location....thank you thieves ). But I DO need a new headlight beeper. I always leave my damn lights on and drain the battery. It's so bad I started to leave a jump pack in my trunk.

If you're too lazy to run through all that, you can just unplug the seat and hope you don't get into an accident (i believe SRS is turned off.)!!
