Default Why does the O2 / oxygen sensor cost so much for a honda?

I was looking up prices for an O2 and for a honda they're about $250, when one for a GM is only about $20

$250?

For my '99 Accord, there are two Oxygen sensors. The one in front of the cat costs $90, the one either in or behind the cat costs $83. These prices are Autozone prices, with me doing the labor. Is the $250 including labor?

I don't know why the cost so much. I remember chaning the Oxygen sensor on my '88 Corsica (my commuter car), it was only ~ the $20 you mentioned.

Electrically, as far as the actual sensor element is concerned, they are all the same. Physically... well there's a difference. All I know is the cheaper generic Bosch type wouldn't work well enough or long enough in my application. I had to get the OEM sensor from hparts.com for $106.

are there any signs of when one needs to be replaced? I currently have 269,000 miles on the original oxygen sensors, Just got smog checked and passed just not with flying colors, but would replacing the sensors have anyhting at all to do with a bit of piston knock at high rpm's under heavy throttle? Just curious thanks.

At least O2 sensors can't cut you, or that bad anyway.

When you start blowing oil, you can be sure the o2 sensor(s) will go bad soon.

Thus, the imperative to keep the oil changed and clean.

I too have over 196k and pass smog with flying colors.
It's allll about the maintenance.

Genuine Honda secondary O2 is only ~$105 (at my dealership anyways) and can be used in the primary postition.

Don't know what the policy is for Accords, but my 97 Civic was part of an extended emissions warranty, and Honda replaced my 02 sensor for free. Don't know if Accords fall into that though.

Have you tried www.rockauto.com ? I buy lots of parts from them and LOVE the prices. And they have a lot of choice too.
