Default 2002 Honda Accord V6 faulty transmission P0780 & P1676

Hi just wondering if anyone know what these error codes are?

According to the dealer:
P0780: Shift malfunction
P1676: PCS signal failure All Trans

Do these codes tell me that I need to change my entire transmission? Or is it just a computer malfunction?

When I drive my car, I realized that it has a difficult time shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear. When it "does" shift, the D4 light blinks and the engine light stays on.

When I restart the car, the blinking D4 goes away and then I can drive shifting more smoothly.

Is the problem with the way the onboard computer shifts the gear? Or do I need to replace the entire transmission. The dealer is charging $4,500 for the fix...

Any recommendations about fixing? Take the whole transmission out or change the computer chip? From your experience, how much will this repair cost? Will it be worth the money to fix?

recently my accord had this code p0780- shift malfunction. From some research I figured that since it didnt point specifically to what gear it was shift malfunctioning, and after reset the light and it coming on a week later it wasn't that serious. So I did a couple fluid changes for the tranny, twice so far and it hasnt come on ever since. I heard the malfunction could be all the little particles of transmission getting stuck in the crevices of he tranny leading it to shift incorrectly, and fluid changes should solve this. Tomorrow I'm planning to do another fluid change being 3 total, which is the number reccommended to fully flush out the tranny since it holds about 7-8 quarts, and only 3.1 quarts can be changed out each time unless you flush it completely. This has been a touchy issue. Don't get fucked over by the dealer especially when you don't have waranty, try to do things yourself first. As far as the other code, I never came across that before so I couldnt help you there. Pm if you have further questions. Don't listen to everyone and their stupid reasons, 98-02 tranny's are bad if you dont take care of it, drive hard, never change fluids etc. So if you drive the crap out of your car, then I suggest to get another vehicle cause these trannies are sensitive. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input Honda Genome. I'll try to do the tranny flush and see if that'll solve the problem!

let me kno how it goes....accord manual recommends doing this 3 times, refilling the 4th time and using that as a complete flush, so you'll be looking at 12 bottles of ATF if your is a 6th Gen, I'm at my 3rd change right now, and my what a difference in driving it has made, it shifts earlier, smoother, feels like a brand new tranny to what I had before. I might do it the 4th time as recommended, but I'm waiting to see if the code comes up again which it hasnt thus far, but we'll see....

Hey Honda Genome,

As you have mention changing the fluids 3 times, does it mean I do it all 3 times at once or once every certain mile. Cause I have been changing my trans oil every 15k or is that too long?

Thanks.

well in the manual it says drive short distance, and doesnt mention specifically how many miles to drive it....What I did was the first time I changed it, I drove it for like 1k miles LOL, 2nd time was about 600+ miles and third time was around 60 miles or so....I'm not sure If I need to do this a 4th time as recommended in the manual since the shifting and everything has pretty much improved dramitically, but in your case, are you flushing it (4x) or changing it once every 15k miles?

I changed it every 15k miles, I have changed the trans oil 4 times in the last 70k miles. I bought the car at 47K and now its at 118k.

Changing the fluid will help, but the transmission itself has a defect. Sell it and buy a new car while its still running.

honda genome, the code i see are P0740 and P1676

I drive 2002 Honda Accord EX V6 car. It has 111K miles on it and i bought it from a dealer as-is last year.

Yesterday, the TCS and Check Engine light came up together. I stopped the car and restarted the ignition and the TCS light went off but the Check Engine light is still there.

I went to the autozone and the code they mentioned are P0740 and P1676.

What could be the issue and what should i start with?

What do you think it will cost for the repair?

Can I drive the car to work (50 miles a day) until I get time to get it repaired?

It happened y'day when i was returning from work. I stay in Chicago area and sometime last month TCS light stayed on when I switched the car on in early morning cold. But it went off when i restarted the car after some time. But this time, it came up with the check engine light which is still on...

Please suggest the next steps.

If you have completed the transmission flush (4 changes), try disconnecting the battery for 1 minute to clear all of your codes and see if they repeat. Your accord is known for the aut transmission going out.
