the tires that came with my 04 honda accord sedan lx 4cyl is so worn that i know i need to replace them. i currently have michelin energy mxv4 s8, and they are ridiculously expensive, so i am looking at alternatives. does anyone have any recommendations. (205/65R15)

so far i've been recommended the dunlop spirt a2 plus, the bf goodrich traction t/a, kuhmo solus kh16, and the yokohama as430. any thoughts on any of these tires, or other alternatives?

It's a question of what you are looking for, if you will be seeing a lot of snow, rain, cold or hot conditions. If you are in a wet climate, I suggest Michelin Hydroedge, great tires for rain/cold conditions. Those are my winter tires.

I'm just looking to replace the tires i currently have, the ones that came with my car. They're Michelin Energy MXV8 S8. Unbelievably expensive... I've been looking at some alternatives, and these are the two I've thought of so far

and has anyone gone to Merchant's Tire and Auto? They recommended the Yokohama AS430, which apparently is model that is made specifically for them.

Just a thought, Yokohama AS430 are not made in 205/65/15 size, so those are not an option.

Again, off Tirerack, the Michelin Hydroedge are 103 a piece retail, w/o road hazard. They will last you 40k+ miles, and every single review is the greatest. They are all season, I drove on them, the rain response, everything is great, along with ridicolous treadlife.

If there is a tire you want, to replace stock ones, that is the one I would recommend without a doubt.

tires are the only thing connecting your car to the road. it has the biggest impact on the performance and safety of your car. is that something you want to go cheap on?

Now there is someone with the right frame of mind. Spend the money now, save your life later. What's that Goodyear or Michelin commercial, "A lot is riding on your tires"

There are plenty of tires on the road worse than Kumho.

I'm simply stating that my experience with the brand has been a good one, equal to any Michelin/BF Goodrich/Goodyear I've driven on.

Yeah I agree, Kuhmos and Falkens are great tires and never have let me down. Its up to you if you wanna pay for the name brand of the tire. Im poor so I ride on tires I can afford and I also do my research on them too and Kuhmos and Falkens are great for the prices.

Lots of people have suggested Kuhmos and Falkens to me. I've gotten pretty decent quotes, especially one for the goodyear assurance tripletread for under $600 with installation and road hazard protection, but also one for the toyo proxy tpt. anyone have any thoughts on the toyo proxy's? they'd be about $100 less than the goodyears. basically it's not just price, but i had a much more enjoyable experience talking to the shop that gave me a quote for the toyos than the goodyear, and if i can save a few bucks and go to a shop that i feel more comfortable and had friends say good things about, i'm there

I'm still holding out for the Michelin Hydroedge.

Those tires that you are looking at are good, but the Michelin's will be the best. I would suggest talking to them about it. If you're looking for performance, which I thought you stated before that you weren't then maybe a Toyo Proxy or a BFG or Falken tire might be better for you, but since you stated you are just looking for a replacement, then I'm still holding out for the Michelin.
