Air conditioning recharging and r12 to r134a conversion

My A/C
I own a '92 accord LX and the A/C needs to be recharged. The parts work fine it just doesn't blow cold air. Since it's pretty old do I have to upgrade the whole system or can the system simply be recharged?

In a Junkyard near you.
I would definately have it converted to R-134A from R12. All you need to do is change the fittings and the compressor oil. R-134A refrigerant is much cheaper than R-12.
Also if the system has completely discharged you will need to have the shop place it under a vaccum and replace the receiver drier to get rid of some of the contaminates.

before you recharge, have the system evaculated and vaccum tested (make sure it can hold a vaccum for at least 4 hours) if it passes, then recharge with proper amt of r134a and pag oil. Should also have the disscant replaced as well (usually called the receiver/dryer)
Also be aware that R134a is not as effective as r12 and you will have to charge to 90% capacaity. R134a also does not have the reserve capacity or sunload capacity that r12 does...

Lol! Can't argue with that!
If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for all that?

Well he agreed to repair and recharge the a/c (in writing) when I was negotiating to buy the car from him. (He's a small dealer/repair shop) So I didnt pay for anything but the car.

less than a hundred bucks, i was going to do that for my beater 89 legend and then some dumbarse at kragen put some left over r12 in a can in the "sale" section.
it was like two years ago, which make it very very illegal to sell r12 over the counter.
best 12 dollar i spent
