My built LS head vs VTEC head
This is the 3rd forum that has told me to ditch my LS head in favor of a VTEC head.
B18B JG Engine dynamics ported and polished head with oversized ferrera valves and high lift springs. I havent purchased cams for it yet but I already have the head.
I thought that surely this head would make killer power. Its going on a sleeved and built B18A1 block with a GT30R turbo.
I am putting a ton of money in this set-up and dont want to sale myself short.
So whats the real deal?

i say do what you want to do. don't listen to anyone else. i'm using a ls head too on a sleeved b18a block . it should make plenty of power and you will like the amount of torque it has over the vtec head

I'm doing the same thing to my B18B LS head. It is also on a B18A block, stock sleeves though. What size oversize valves did you get? I got .5mm. Let me know how much power you are making.

Well, on some fairly mild (~400whp) non-sleeved setups, I've seen stock b16 heads pick up around 60 whp over stock LS heads. I'd say that the increase in power would grow exponentially as you start to make more power since flow becomes even more of an issue. I highly doubt that the head work on that LS head will net that kind of a gain.

Don't forget rev limit issues with the LS head. It might be capable of alot of high end flow and that turbo could be spooled out also... you won't be able to rev as high due to the valvetrain limitations. You might have springs for it... but that rocker design isn't happy way up and alot of power. (this is what I've gathered... take it with a grain of salt).

Comparing a stock vtec head to a stock novtec ,,obvioulsy get the vtec head for more power, higher revs, better flowing,etc.....But comparing a fully built ported out nonvtec head to a stock vtec head? you better just use that head you got,,you'll make great numbers with it....what cams do you have in mind?

Being the noob that I am I am not sure yet. I am considering sticking with the LS cams after reading some crower horror stories on this site.

I dont know about you but if im going for ultimate overall power im not using vtec at all..thats just me though..

since you already have the head with all that work done to it i would keep it. check out some killer non-vtec setups around here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1620181

Re: (Mr.speaker)
hey the vtec head, preferrable the b16 since it flows better. then you get the vtec killer rocker arm setup and some nice big vtec cams. this should be the most hp gain from a b-series head. this would make it like a LS but with vtec ALWAYS on.
or since you already got the LS head done up you should get some nice aftermarket LS cams. this way you will be able to really feel the gains from your built head. the stock LS cams will do alright but will not pull as hard, especially at the top end.

Re: (Turbo Toyz)
Yeah, non-VTEC posted a link to my build.
Everyone and their mom told me I would be lucky to make 550hp with my LS head. I made 490whp @ 19psi on PUMP GAS. We could've easily taken it to 22psi and made 530, but the gas was 4 months old.
I'm getting my race gas tune this Thursday.
Keep the LS head, especially if you've invested the money into it.
