Default How to tell if my amp is blown.

Hey everyone I need to know if my amp is blown or if something else is wrong. I have a Directed Audio 750d amplifier, pushing 2 12" Powerbass Evolution series subs. The amp will go on in the green power light but then 2 seconds later turn into the red protection mode light. I checked my ground, fuze in fuze holder, amp fuzes, power wire, and everything else. The amp is about a little over 1 year old. I'm stomped and need some help.

Disconnect the subs from the amp, and turn it on again. If the light stays green, you have a short in the speaker wires or sub(s). If it does the same thing, then you have an internal amp problem.

After all this time, I still dont' understand how anyone can BLOW up an amp. I have installed several types (Rockford Fosgate, Orion, LINEAR POWER, HiFonics, Alpine, etc...) and NONE has ever blown. CARELESSNESS and insufficient knowledge of car audio is what destroys amps...I GUESS.

I dont think it would be carelessness because it was installed for me at a high end car audio store. My amp boost controller is always less then half way up and on my headunit always at -4. I usually turn the volume up to 20 and one day I guess it just took a **** on me as it just cut off while I was driving.

Just because they work there..that doesn't mean they don't. Good example...My older brother took his 97 Camry to this big chain car audio shop to have his system installed. The dumbasses drilled into his gas tank to "bolt up" a ground. How stupid is that?!! I'm sure there are plenty of bolts back there they could have used for ground.

Yeah I do know what your saying but, I couldnt pass up the offer on the free install. My family knows them for a few years personally and there good guys. They also chose my set up. I dont buy shitty stuff for my car so I dont think its the quality of the stuff that was chosen for me.

that's cool then. I just didn't want you to get shafted like my brother. The only thing they did to repair the problem on his Camry was a pad of "dynamat" to cover the drilled hole..... I still think what they did was GAY in the first place.

if the amp won't work in either car, it's the amp itself and NOT the wiring
take apart the amp and look for any blwon circuits or shorted wires.
also is it making a funny smell when turned off?

Sounds like you have a bad ground if both amps do that in your car

Try relocating the ground to your amp and see if that helps

What he said. Also, if you had a short in the power wire, your fuse would've blown by now.

I didnt use the same amp I used his amp to test it in my car. Yup I'll relocate the ground because I keep checking the fuze and its still not blown.
