Default Temp gauge needle stays on cold but car warms up normally (i think)

Friends teggy stays on cold (always, even after driving around) but heat blows normally.

One time it did move up just a bit and the heat became hotter.

Is it possible the thermostat is stuck open?

I searched but couldn't find the exact problem I am describing, as the rest related to the car overheating, whereas this one isn't.

My car does that too. I have a Koyo 2 row radiator, and my temperature gage will just start to go up, and then the thermostat opens and the gage returns to cold. The gage will only get up to normal when I let the car idle for a long time, but everything seems to be okay. I thought my 94 GS-R might have a problem with the gage, but I know that the radiator is actually cooling the motor off that much. I have replaced the thermostat... same results.

does ur friend have an aftermarket dual core aluminium radiator???

the cluster itself could be faulty too. consider that.

nope 100% stock

also discovered it only stays on COLD while driving.

I left the car idling for 10-15 minutes with me in it and it warmed up to almost normal temp.

I had the same problem. Changed the thermostat.. didn't solve it. There is a sensor on the block that you need to change but if the sensor is still good change the wiring to it. That was my problem. The wiring was messed over time.

Good luck
