Default Oil Leakage

Hello, my name is Tom and it's my first post here at H-T. I have a 1993 Accord EX Sedan and it seems to be leaking oil. I first noticed it a yesterday when I was backing up and saw a constant stream of something following me. I backed the car up a bit more to a flat surface so that I could jack it up later in the day, as I was quite busy.

I got under the car today and noticed that the oil leak was coming from right around the oil filter area. I jacked the car up and put it on the jack stands and then proceded to clean the whole area with some brake cleaner. I started the car up and saw that oil was indeed coming from that area. I took a closer look and saw that it wasn't leaking from where the oil filter itself connects, but there is a little adapter on the engine (not sure what it was called) and it was leaking from there. I have no idea what to do from here and I'm requesting some assistance from you kind folk. Is there some way I can possibly tighten that adapter up or what can I do to get it fixed?

Probably a gasket or o-ring that needs changing. I'm sure a dealer can tell you which one (gasket or o-ring) so you can get one before taking it apart to change it. Unless it is loose, I don't think tightening it will help any. Either one shouldn't cost too much.

Sounds like you oil-cooler o-ring is leaking. The adapter your talking about is the engine oil cooler. The oring probably has a tear in it, I think its a 30mm to get the cooler off. Edit- https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1131429 here ya go #33

There are several components in the area which can contribute to oil leaking.
they are:
1) Oil Filter (Of Course)
2) Oil Pressure Sensor Unit (mounted just above the oil filter)
3) Front Crankshaft seal (blowing oil back)
and of course, the usual suspect for oil leaks:
4) Valve Cover Gasket

Call me stupid but I didn't realize the accord had an oil cooler. Where's it at and where are the lines? I know you got radiator, ac, and then power steering line but I didn't know there was an oil cooler.

Schmitey I eouldn't call you stupid; not all accords have that intercooler filter base, I think its an "A6" variant that has it. But if ya ever change one, torque the filter thread base in pretty tight or it will come out with the next filter change. I have always cleaned them up and used lock-tite where it threads into the block.

Yeah i did some research, looks like the H-series have them. I was just like what the heck...where is it? The least of which is why?...a family car doesn't need an oil cooler

Edit: The oil filter is a bit oily because I removed it, otherwise it was untouched and had no oil on it.

Engine oil cooler adapter, The oring is between it and the block.

Alright, so my old man will be bringing me the part when he gets home. What's the procedure to get to get to the back and remove the o-ring? Could somebody give me a step by step procedure on how to do this and the tools I will need? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That, is the engine oil cooler adapter. Certainly interesting for those of us who may want tp upgrade our lubrication systems, since Steveoba8 was correct. the '93 Accord EX had an Oil Cooler installed OEM

Jack it up
Probably remove downpipe
Remove oil filter
Remove coolant hoses going to cooler( probably drain coolant before this unless you want a bath) Maybe moogoCow can chime in on this or P-adams
I know on 4th gen ludes its a 30mm nut to get the cooler off, try to get a shallow well- doesnt look like a lot of room with the rear subframe
remove old o-ring
clean surface on block and cooler
install new o-ring-should proably lube it up(p-adams, mogoo cow?)
Edit: i would hope the oring is the cause of your leak, i would double check and make sure its not coming from you headgasket or somewhere else

Definitely man! Is this a stock upgrade someone with a turbo setup would want to look into? Sounds like something cheap and easy to do if you can get your hands on it. I don't recall anyone writing anything about oil coolers, but then again I don't know **** about turbo setups really. Its another one of my 'if I had money and wasn't in school' projects.

It was that o-ring, quite simple. Changed oil and replaced filter at the same time. Thanks a million.
