Default odd buzzing, then ABS light...

Well, my ABS light has finally come on permenantly. When I first started my car yesterday, it assumed it's fast idle as usual, then I heard a buzzing sound coming from underneath the hood. After about 10 seconds, the buzzing stopped, there was a pop (probably a relay coming on) from underneath the dash, and my ABS light comes on. Since I worked 16 hours yesterday, and I'll be doing the same today, I haven't had time to investigate the matter.

Anyone have any ideas or personal experiences that relate to this matter? I'll thumb through my Helms tomorrow evening when I have a little free time, but until then I'm clueless.

Jump the maintenance jumper, turn key, and read ABS error code. There will be 2 series of bursts, the first is the main code, the second is the sub code. Could be throwing more than one code as well so wait for it to cycle through and you start seeing repeating codes.
Post the main/sub codes back here.

the damn thing keeps loosing fluid and the buzzing is the system trying to pressurize itself(?)

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't see any evidence of leaking anywhere.

Were there any symptoms prior to your light coming on?

not really, it just came on one day, and hasn't went off. it's been on for over a year now, i have not been that worried about it.i thought it could be a fuse, but i checked that. maybe a broken or messed up wire somewhere?

I have the same problem wiht my accord. It's not really a problem because i drive it all the time. It only makes noise in the morning right after I drive off about 50-70 feet, then it stops. the noise it's loud, just enough so i can hear it. i hope that it's nothing seriouse.
My brothers accord right ABS is fu#@*ing up to, he took it to honda and the said it was going to cost him $780(jsut for one side)to get it fix 97 exv6. But there isn't any noise at all coming from his brakes, it drives just fine. But he's gonna get it fix soon since we live in MN

man i hope someone can get us a answer.

Is it a buzzing noise? It's a noise I've heard in the past, but only lasts about a second after you start up, kinda like something is pressurizing (as Misa mentioned).

It's a bad ABS modulator. The buzzing noise is the modulator attempting to keep pressure in the ABS system. You'll have to replace it, and getting it from the dealer is hella expensive (I was quoted $800 just for the part). I just removed the fuses from my ABS fusebox under the hood and said to hell with it. I know how to unlock my own brakes.

I drove without ABS for a few months. I can threshold brake no problem, but it sure is nice to have ABS in those wet, sudden, panic stop situations.

OK, so is there a definitive way to determine if the ABS modulator or the ABS motor set is failing? You want to see Majestic's great deal on the modulator? haha... take a look kids: 95 Accord EX ABS Modulator

Was I in a vacuum when I wrote this? There should be a code for the modulator.

Missed that, sorry Dave. Yes, I do value your insight. We'll check it this weekend probably since I'm working so much this week.

Hmm I think I have this buzzing problem too. It desn't do it all the time. Is it possible that it could have gotten damaged during my swap. That's when I first noitced it, last night.

My ABS would sometime buzz shortly after startup when I'd start moving. Only after 10 years did I find out why it only buzzes sometimes and not all the time. It only happens when I leave my house sometimes. The house has a steep driveway and a very small, shallow pothole in it (so small you can't even feel it when you drive over it). It's only when I'm going down the driveway and hit this pothole that the ABS system lets out a quick buzz even though I'm not on the brakes. Apparently the ABS motor triggers with any deceleration, even without brakes (you may have noticed your ABS kick in when you're engine braking in the snow). Well, I engine brake down the driveway and when my tire hits the hole the ABS kicks in for a split second and lets out the buzz. I skip the hole, no buzz.
So, for all you folk hearing a little buzz after startup, does it happen downhill with a minor road imperfection?

The buzzing happens when I start the car, even before I start moving.

yeah mine does the same thing...its either the pressure or its the system tring to get the fluid in there...or however you wanna phrase it...but yeah ive heard the 5gens are really bad about this..they should have a recall...and whats up with the Majestic thing....$8008.86?? they should really fix that...i know they have a reman. one for like $5-600 something like that...
