Default Massive coolant leak! 92 accord 4dr ex

Hey guys,

My mom's 1992 accord ex overheated yesterday on her way to work, so i went ahead and replaced her thermostat (which hasnt been replaced since 1992). Then later that nite on her way home, she calls and tells me she is stranded on the freeway because her car had a massive coolant leak (like gushing underneath the car). She had it towed home tonite and since its dark, i wont be able to take a look at it tomorrow. What (and where) are some things i should look for?

ps: she also replaced her radiator, upper rad. hose, and another hose in the back (from what she tells me) a few years ago.

Thanx for you help.

first thing i would chk the work you did, chl all the coolant hoses including bypass hoses , radiator, heater valve, water pump ,,, best way to find a leak is to pressure test the system

I am not sure why you'd change the thermostat, that wouldn;t help it.

I would just relace the radiator if there aren't any visible leaks. 60$ shipped on ebay, no big deal. If you want to be sure, put it in theair and spin the wheels.

did you replace the gasket with the t-stat?

check the water pump, mine was "gushing" as you said as well when it went out.

sorry guys, my mom's been at work all day so i havent had a chance to get under the car yet.

But tonite, i let the car idle in the parking lot for a while and took a look under the engine. the leak looks like it is coming above where the header curves underneath the car... I'd say somewhere below the intake manfold.

The t-stat looks ok, no leaks from there, no leaks from the radiator as well.

I dont have a helms for an accord and im having a hard time trying to find the schematic for the coolant system on hondaautomotiveparts.org

I had the same prob with my 4th gen. Accord, I replaced my t-stat (3 times), my hoses (once), and my radiator (twice) and finaly it stoped. I think the radiator cap I put on there was the prob cuz it was a high preasure cap, when I put the stock one on it was fine.
hope this helps
