Default How to measure cylinder width/roundness?

I have a block that has some pitting at the top of one of the cylinders where a valve bounced around. Good times.

Before I go about ordering new pistons and having it bored .020 or .040 over, I'd like to know if thats even a viable option. I know there is some tool that measures width inside walls, similar to a micrometer calipers. I'm hoping this will tell me if the pitts are too deep.

Any ideas on the proper name of this tool, or another way to measure the depth of the pits? I really don't want to lug the whole block up to the machine shop more than I have to. I'm a wuss.

I have one of these:

If I was buying it over again, I might buy one like this:

Or one like this, which I what my local machine shop uses:

a) Inside Micrometer
b) telescoping gauges and a set of outside micrometers
c) or even better...cylinder bore gage and a set of outside micrometers.

Either combo will work. c) is what i would use.
