Radio/Cassette player and Cigarette lighter not working
I feel sheepish posting this.
But my then two year old son was playing in the car and put some pennies into the cassette slot. Well surprise, surprise, it no longer works - no power, no cassette, zip. Co-incidentally, the cigarette lighter stopped working. So I thought maybe the radio cassette player did not short out (or whatever). I checked all the fuses and all are okay. Checked twice. I pulled out the unit to take a look - did not use any diagnostic tool - I simply do not have them.
So, people. Why would both the radio/cassette and cigarette lighter clap out all at the same time? I ask this because if I spend money to replace the unit, I don't want to discover that the problem lies elsewhere.
Besides, how much would it cost to repair the unit? I know this is like asking how long is a piece of string.

yeah, the radio and the lighter run off the same fuse... sometimes the dome light too (forgot which years though). you might want to check for burned wires. try replacing the fuse anyway, too. i had a fuse burn out on me not too long ago, yet it still looked brand new.

Yup I would try replacing the fuse also as they are all run from the same fuse. I had it blow once or twice.

hey man i install things at circuit city and when the radio and cig lighter stops working its most likely a fuse, make sure u check ALL of the fuses. Remeber most factory radio's have 2 fuses 1 just for the radio, and 1 for many of the interior features, and remember 99.9% of the time it's a fuse the other .1% of the time your **** out of luck!

Thanks Josh. The more things change the more they stay the same. My wife has an iPod and with the radio CD set up, she can't play iPod. Of course we have the FM Transmitter for the iPod, but its crap. So with the cassette player we have a cassette adapter we can plug into the iPod and listen to tunes. The adapter costs all of $15 from Best buy vesus the couple of hundred for a system which is specific to iPod. Go figure......

I can't believe I did not think of this before! Yes, I just checked and it is blown. We spent $10 at a garage sale for a used but good Kenwood radio/cD player and got a quote for $90 to install it at Best Buy. I think putting in a newe fuse will do the trick.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks again Josh. My wife and I read this and got a chuckle. I would however have to wait a couple of years to ask him to a point where he can comprehend the question and answer sufficiently. By that time we may have a new car.
