i just put a new timing belt and water pump on my 95 civic ex turbo. i aslo put a skunk 2 adj. cam gear on there also and left the top part of the timing belt cover off. after the car warms up the belt makes noise. just wodering if thats normal. car runs great. people ive asked about it just say its the belt and its ok. just wanted to make sure tho.

Sure its not the alternator belt, spray the alternator belt down with water. If it stops, then you know its that

yeah i tried that and put a new alt belt on too. also there is a new timing belt tensioner on it. the noise isnt like bad sounding just like a whine.

Well the timing belt should make no noise at all.

if it is makine a whine sound, it is probably the new tensioner, give it a lil while. I put a new one on my car and it did the same thing. I thought it was bad and took it back to the garage. Let it run for a bit see if it goes away. Spray a lil lube into the tensioer itself DONT GET IT ON THE BELT! just a lil squirt it should go away. Spray into the part where the bearing is, not the acutal tensioner itself..

Well, maybe the timing belt is too tight. and probably yes, use a little lubey stuff. And yes, dont get it on the belt, spray where the bearing is, and it is best to do when the engine is on... just watch out for splatters, it will be a bitch.

Yeah, whining is a symptom of an overly tight belt, this will shorten the belts life.

If the belt whines and you continue to drive it a while, it will eventually stop making noise but it will still have a shorter life than it should.

If it were loose wouldnt it make a tapping sound as the belt flapped back and forth?
Or even better, slip over the waterpump pulley and make a hell of a noise, until it jumped time that is.

Here is something to think about as well. I know on my 96 integra I changed my timing belt and I also had a whining sound comming from the engine bay, but it wasn't the timing belt making the noise: it was the crank senser. The timing belt was found to be too loose after rotating it 6 times using the crank shaft, but after that was fixed and adjusted professionally the noise still remained. The guy I took it to couldn't figure it out but I took it somewhere else and to make a long story short, the crank sensor (right at the bottom by the crank sockt) has to be placed EXACTLY how it was found and torqued to spec otherwise you will **** up your crank senser.
This isn't to scare you but it is something to think about. If you want to begin deducing what this problem is, begin by removing each belt indivudally (i.e. A/C belt, PS belt, alternater belt). If the noise still remains, then you know its the timing belt and it is probably too tight, hence the whining sound. The only way to really know if your crank senser is out of place is when it throws a code, however, it can go up to 50,000 miles until it will throw a code and continue to whine. That is what my friends car did until it threw a code. He thought the noise was normal...
