Default B16 head vs. B18 head = Good Info

On another post I read that the B18 had better flow then the b16.
I Just wanted to say somethings about that. Below is a chart from the post earlier.

B16 is better, or the same...Look at that graph again. I just noticed something. Look at the valve lift. The b18 doesn't beat the b16 until .450 valve lift.. I reallllly doubt that ANY honda unless it's got a BIG *** cam is gonna have .450 valve lift. anything in the .450 range of valve lift is a serious cam usually. cranes BIGGEST BADDEST b18 cam only has .472intake / .457 exhaust lift. And that is a race only cam look what crane says about it.
Race Only Roller Cam
Pro stock - all motor - naturally aspirated
Pro class modifications needed
Check valve to piston clearance
Minimum compression ratio 12.5:1

Anyways...With a regular valve lift number, the b16 out flows the b18, or ties with it. I'de like to see a cam that has .500 lift like that chart shows. Just something to think about.
If you wanna check it out. go to Acura VTEC Cams and go to the LAST cam, it's the baddest one. And according to that chart, the b18 outflowed the b16 overall by 2 cfm.
2 cfm isn't ****. You wouldn't even notive 2 cubic foot per MINUTE. So i guess it doesn't matter which head you go with. Just get the one with higher compression. Plus i wonder how accurate that chart is anyways. That's such a close flow number, I wonder if it's correct. 2cfm is sooo tiny.

Also, I would assume that this was a test just thru one port. Not like that makes any difference though.

exactly. the range of lift that normal camshafts utilize is where the b16 outflows the b18.

the b18 head only outflows the b16 head after .475 valve lift. no streetable cam lifts that much.

the b16 head flows a little better than the b18 head

Ok, the B16 head is essentially an ITR head without the polishing, no wonder it outflows the GSR head........NA. The GSR head on the other hand is a far better flowing head for FI. It has better a better swirl effect because of the dome shape.

Is that a 1st generation, or 2nd? I take it that it is a JDM head/block since it's B16.

How is the same head going to flow better with FI or NA? It should not matter. The flows would come down to the port size and cam lift. It should not matter if air is being pushed or pulled in.

uhmm... so if u put a b16 block with gsr head will it be slower or same as just a whole b16?

you would drop raise the compression a little bit

Good reading you did on that chart I wouldnt mind seing that chart my self, but the only reason I think they say the head is better on the g.s.r than the b16 is the fact that the g.s.r head has more compression due to a tighter quench area that gives it more compression. I know you all motor cats love the whole compression deal. As a matter of fact I have a g.s.r head I would like to trade for a b16 head or type r head. Im a boost guy and I need lower compression. Maybe somone could help ? 347-386-7065 Will

the b16 flows better but the b18 yields more compression, no?

i thought it was common knowledge that the PR3 (B16a, B18C-R) head flows better than P72 GSR head....

I've always heard the b16 was better. In fact I don't think i've ever heard anyone say the b18 is better. Good post though.
