Default 1999 Honda Accord 4 Cylinder - Auto to 5-Speed Question

So we're undertaking what seems to be a PITA job on a customer's 1999 Accord 4 cylinder EX.

He has brought us the bulk of the 5-speed conversion parts, but I have a few questions:

1. Are the bolt holes on the framerail for the topside transmission mount the same on the 5-speed and auto chassis?

2. Are there provisions for the 5-speed cables for the shifter on the auto chassis?

3. Does anyone know of any obvious wiring problems we might run into? We were provided an ECU from the 5-speed, and we're aware of the trickery for the neutral safety switch, but is there anything else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1)they are different from what i hear, it's not likely it's gonna line up.

2)?? not following your question but you'll need the shift assembly, linkage from 5speed

3)immoblizor is hardest part, shiftlight(signal) would be just plain honda

Thanks for the reply.

My second question means will there be the appropriate holes and whatnot to actually bolt the cable linkages for the shifter cables on this car since it is an auto chassis? Will the shifter box bolt to the chassis, or will we be trying to drill the shifter tunnel area and use nuts and bolts to hold the shifter mechanism in place?

Also my biggest issue is the framerail mounting area bolt holes for the mount - are they the same?

The other stuff is workable, even the immobilizer, but the framerail **** is nothing we want to **** with.

Scroll down to turbowa's posts. He's completed the swap and mentioned some of the wiring, etc.

the 5spd mounting brackets and mounts will bolt up. The tranny mount and brackets will mount up without and mods. You can even reuse some of the bolts, but there are approx. 2-3 bolts you have to order.

As for the shift cable, You do not need to pop a hole or anything like that into the car itself. Around the cable, there is a rubber garmet. Just pull/pop it out, and the cables will go with it too. So when you buy the new 5spd cables, the rubber garmet should already be on there.

As far as the wiring is concern, I'm still researching on how to wire the VSS (speed sensor). Other than that, it should be an ok project but make sure you have a nice set of tools, extensions, and a nice fooking pole to use as a breaker bar.

How are you getting around the immobilizer? I'm taking my ECU to honda to have it match. Good luck man.

Well the transmission is already out, the pedals are going into place, and by the end of the workday all the mecjanical things should be taken care of with just the wiring left to do.

If I'm not mistaken the firewall doesn't have the right hole for the clutch master cylinder, so I believe we'll have to use a hole saw to make the provisions to get the master cylinder in - I'll confirm this later on today of course.

I'm still looking for any wiring solutions if anyone has them. I PM'd turbowa about them since he's done this swap, but no reply yet.

I'll keep you guys posted, and thanks very much for the help.

The holes for the clutch master cyl are stamped in the firewall but not cut out. If you use a hole saw and areg. drill bit you'll be fine. I PM'd you about the wiring and left my cell phone #. There is just to much to write at one time. I'm in the process right now of getting a wright up together. Call me tonight and I can try and walk you through it. Once I start to explain the wiring you'll under stand.

It will also help you out alot if you are looking at the car and talking ot me at the same time. To speed things along take the lower part of the drivers side and pass. side of the dash off, and take out the glove box. Also pull the carpet out from over the ECU connectors and have easy access to them.

As for the park safety switch, I may have found a way to bypass it. Other then the known way I first discovered. This also has to be done to get the speedo to work.

Call me and I'll fill you in.

Car is done, but we didn't get the reverse lights working.

Bascially Trbowa is THE ****. He gave me the step-by-step wiring process and my tech doing the job got it all done in about a day's time. It was made possible by Turbowa for sure.

Public thanks to Turbowa for the awesome info. Without it we would not have gotten the swap done in a matter of days - it would have been months!

This is how i hooked up the reverse...

The reverse sensor (backup switch) have a yellow cable and a green/black cable. The green/black cable from the switch goes to the white cable on the male end (which is also is white on the female side of the harness) of the AT shift selector cable. If you have the ETM, its Pin #9. The yellow cable is the power. Cross referencing from the Auto and the 5spd Diagram, the yellow cable should be connected to the yellow cable of the shift lock solenoid. The shift lock solenoid harness is actually a 2-pin harness that is located right next to the auto shifter assembly. Use one of those micro screw drivers to pop out the wires from the harness or you could just cut the cable free from the harness. Your choice. **Almost Done** Go to the driver's under-dase fuse/relay box. Look for the harness that is located on the back side of the fuse block and look for Harness "K". I provide a pic of it from the ETM book which is reference number 14 on the diagram. Pop out pin #11 (white cable) and relocate it to pin #2 (should be empty). And that should be it. Test it out.. and enjoy. **A little Disclaimer to cover my @ss... this post should be used just as a reference. So if you end up screwing yourself and others, that is your own fault.. not mine.**

Pics of the harness I used. I clipped it off of the Shift Selector which is attached to the AT tranny. I didnt feel like screwing around with the main harness in the car. If you look at the diagram in the background, its the pin outs for the harness itself. PS- this is the male end of the harness.

Pics of the male harness with a crimp at the end to the White cable for the reverse output and an extension for the yellow cable to go to the cabin for power provided by the yellow cable of the shift lock soldnoid harness.

Heres a diagram of the harness from the driver fuse/relay box. Remember, it's harness K thats need to be worked on, which is #14 on the diagram

I hope this helps for anyone that want to do this auto-5spd swap.

I do a write up on how to wire the cruise control in a couple of days. Thanks again to Turbowa!

If you do a manual swap and can just use the manual ecu for that car, do you still need to do all this re-pinning of the ecu and extra wiring?
