non-vtec b18 vs ls/vtec
Ok, i was planning on going the ls/vtec route, however, i've been reading up on all motor b18b's lately and it seems like not a bad choice and since i already have a strong running b18 it would be cheaper and more practical for my situation than ls/vtec would. my plan for the ls/vtec was to have my block bored to 81.5mm, get oversized itr pistions, eagle rods, and basically be done. so i'm not looking for an extreme set up, just one that will give me decent power and reliablilty. my question is, is building up my current b18 worth it? by worth it i mean will i end up spending the same amount because i still plan on going to 81.5mm and using itr pistons and new rods, and if i use my current motor i would want to upgrade my valvetrain. from what i can tell i will probably spend a little less since i wouldn't have to buy a vtec head, oil like kit, and get special machining done to my block. is this right? the only downfall i can think of is that i won't make as much peak hp but will still have a respectable amount of power to get me through the day. any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

it depends on how fast you want your car to be. it sounds like you want a fast daily driver, so i would recomend the ls vtec. are you going to be doing the work yourself?

talk to a guy on her that goes by: " hybrid_vtec". hes got a pretty nicely built n/a ls. he seems to be one of the most knowledgeable non vtec guys.

Granted going N/A LS would be more cost efficient, however you will sacrifice streetablity. It depends on how far you want to push it and want your goals are. For daily driven LS/Vtec will be your best bet. On the other hand, an N/A LS with Crower 403's is very streetable, although you will not create as much power as an LS/Vtec with 403's unless you have a B20 block and really nice ported head. It can be done though, and I am willing to give any information I can to help you out.
Just let me know.
