I've been doing my daily drive lately in d3 as opposed to d4, to put less wear on the tranny. I usually drive between 35-45 the whole ride. But now my rpms are 2500-3k instead of 1500-2k, does this have any effect on the car other then gas milage?

And is keeping it is d3 for the daily commute, and basically all the time driving around the city under 50, worth doing? Is it harming anything? I heard that it helps because its not constantly changing from d3 to d4, any insight?

You are putting less wear on the tranny, but you are putting more wear on your engine, constantly running those higher RPMs, not to mention the gas mileage factor. I personally dont see it as worth it. If you want it to stay in fourth, you have to learn how to work the gas pedal so that you can accelerate without having it drop down a gear.

Do you think this put alot more stress on my timing belt, constantly running the engine at 3k rpm? I've been doing it for the past 3-4 month's or so. And im due for timing belt, but im going to do it this summer. Even in d3 i never take the engine rpm's over 3500 i just baby the car.

Tommorow i will go back to d4 driving...

Also what do you mean by work the gas pedal? Did driving like this for the past few months put significant wear on the engine?!

i guess he is saying learn how to control your gas panel, come on it's a automatic

you wouldn't put alot more stress on the motor by driving d3, but you are wasting gas, it wouldn't baby or put less stress on the tranny neither, need proof? read how the planetary gear works on howstuffworks.com(sp??)

the gas pedal has a big effect on your gears and rpms. i found if you drive on D4 and you know your driving habits you can control your shifting with the pedal. When ever you push down and dont stop the rpms will go up until redline. If you just press the pedal to a certen spot it will shift for you. theres other tricks you can learn with a auto and the pedal to get more power out of it, but i already went through one tranny already..haha

For a good drag start in D3 once it redlines once shift to D4..theres more things but you gotta try it yourself

The only time I'd really run it in D3 is in heavy stop and go traffic like rush hour.
