PCV Valve symptoms
What are the symptoms that occur when the PCV valve is ready for replacement?
On a 3G Integra is the valve accessible from the top or do you have to access it from the bottom?

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (eh-D)
You could just go to your local car parts store to get it. Or you could also go the dealership if you want oem, personally it doesn't matter to me. It's hard to describe where it is exactly. I know it is possible to change it just by reaching in there if you have a long and skinny arm. If I recall correctly you can reach it by standing next to the right fender and just pull it out. It's about a good arm's length down there.

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (G2LSS)
Any chance that it could make a high pitched whistle/squeal?
I'm replacing it tomorrow morning becuase I'm sure it's overdue and needs to be done anyway.
But my car has been making this sound off and on since the end of last year.

If you have those Valvoline oil change places in your area, you can get it replaced there.

Hey so how often do you have to replace it? I'm at about 32,000 miles and I have not even checked it yet. Could this cause a idle problem? Also I read that all you have to do is clean it not replace. Is this true?

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (Fooser)
A PCV valve is not expensive - two, maybe three bucks. If your car has gone 32k on the original, I'd just replace it. I think in an extreme case it might affect idle, not sure of it though. I believe a non-functioning valve will make for more blowby, poor fuel economy, etc.

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (risingson77)
a PCV valve that has failed or is functioning improperly can cause a poor idle. When i changed mine i ordered it through http://www.ahmotor.com along with my fuel filter. I put around 20-25k a year on my car so every change all the items at the same time, usually when school gets out in may. the PCV was relitivly simple to access on my LS but i have seen it more tricky to get in the GSR models. The idle will appear to be jumpy once warmed up. This doesn;t apply during cold weather warm up periods, only once the engine has warmed up. I replaced the PCV as well as the fuel filter and noticed immediate difference. Cheap part, pick one up at an auto parts store. Good luck.

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (maxxdout)
Changed my PCV valve and my fuel filter this morning.
I guess the original owner thought the OEM parts were good forever. Same parts taht were put in on the factory line in Japan!
My fault for not fixing it sooner.
Idle is smoother, mileage appears better.(I drove 270 miles today and I'm still at 1/4 tank)
Not easy the first time, but I'm guessing next time it'll be 5 minutes tops.

My Helm manual says check every 60,000 by pinching the PCV hose. If you here a clicking sound it's good. Should have checked earlier.

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (eh-D)
to check a PCV valve to see if its still good or not, all you have to do is take it out and shake it, it should make a rattling noise, if not, then replace it cause the valve inside is cloged. it should not affect idle at all if its bad

Does a Oil catch can help? I read that it keeps you engine clean thus making the use of the PCV valve pointless.

Re: PCV Valve symptoms (Sideshow9090)
yeah, looking at the diagram would the catch can be spliced into where the PCV hose is?? And somebody mentioned (BSQ?) that the only downside to the can is to empty it...how often does it fill up?

I have not set foot inside a Valvoline Instant Oil change place since they sprayed oil all over my engine in my old car almost 4 years ago.

I have an oil catch can and I empty mine everytime that I change the oil (3,000 miles).
Here is a diagram which shows how the oil catch can works.
You can go to my webpage on a hooking up and oil catch can... http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_O...tructions.html .
