Default 1989 Honda Accord Brake Caliper stuck

I have a 1989 Honda Accord DX and am having a problem on the driver side front brake caliper. Seems that the outer pad wore down to nothing and caliper upper adjuster ( or whatever its called ) is stuck and will not move outwards to allow the new pads to be placed into it.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a proper way to fix this?

Ok, really quite simple. Remove the caliper from the control arm (or whatever you want to call it) and use a pair of pliers to squeeze the caliper in. Once you do that, your good to go. I did a brake job on my 90 Tempo, yes, thats right, a tempo. It is essentially the same for everything though when it comes down to doing disk brakes. Hope that helped.

Perhaps I didn't explain it very well.

The top bolt (which you normally pivot the caliper on) does not allow play in any direction and will not move in/out ( forward/backward) and will not allow the new pads to go in. How can I remove the caliper from this top bolt? Should/will it slide off if I hammer on the caliper toward the back of the brake assembly?

I just need to understand how this top bolt goes on. I don't see a nut except next to the caliper.

I've soaked the bolt in WD40. I there another lubricant I should try?

So you're talking about #15? Does the caliper pivot on it or is it stuck completely?

Looks like the caliper should slide off towards the center of the car? Then clean it up or take it off of the caliper bracket. Try BP Blaster or Liquid Wrench - they seem to work better than WD40 for rust.

I suppose worst-case you can take the entire caliper off from the steering knuckle (#20 bolts) & get a new/rebuilt caliper.

Yep its #15. The caliper pivots but will not slide in/out to adjust for new brake pads.

So if I read that diagram right the caliper should slide off toward the middle of the car right?

Dudes, I totally had the same problem on my friencs 98 Accord. The upper slider bolt was rusty and would not come out. So I took the oil pump sump installation tool for a chevy small block, wrapped the business end around the bolt. struck the striking end with a largish hammer and voila! out she came. Scrubbed it with SOS pad to remove rust, greezed her up and reinstalled. The bolt was impossible to remove by any other means I had available, including using a large vise grip pliers.
I think the oil sump installer was 14 bucks at the parts store. Just ask em for that tool, they'll know. Share it with your friends cuz that upper brake slider bolt is a common problem I learned.
G'luck.
