you can hot wire it but i dont know how to. But even if you did hotwire it, wouldent the wheel lock up?

I would feel bad posting the answer since thieves are always lurking and there seems to be so many posts as of late with cars driving away. It is possible, and yes, the wheel would lock without the key unless you defeat that mechanism.

Just pull out your trusty Helms or whatever manual that has the wiring schematics in it. You'll see how easy it is just by going through those diagrams.

Hope you can find a used cylinder and key for a good price.

yeah it does, once hot wired, which you have to break ignition, you must break the steering column to move the wheel, we have gotten a lot of junkyard parts cars, so i know, your best bet is to tow it to the garage

you can get an entire lock set from the dealer but it will be expensive.....if you do go just get the ignition switch......junk yards will have them for decent prices

Yeah. That's why I asked what kind of car this is happening to, because I have one for sale out of a 2000 EX. It should work on other year civics.

Did it break off above where the tooling is on the key? (tooling is the notches cut into the key)I'm thinking it did since you were able to get it out with a pair of plyers. Take the two pieces to an Ace Hardware and have them cut you a new key. I used to do it for people all the time when I managed a Ace.
