My girlfriends '03 Accord Coupe (v6) the radio display blue backlight decided to randomly go out and not come back. We took it to the local dealership and they said we need to replace the whole radio unit...an expense that we really dont want to undertake....I am thinking that there is an easier fix to this problem. The clock still works and the display is still showing all the numbers but the backlight is not. this is the radio without the nav. system.....in case you were wondering. Any help on how we might be able to solve this problem...ie...parts to buy, instructions on how to fix it etc etc etc....would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

There's a service bulletin on that: #04-027 Too bad your out of warranty. An audio repair shop may be able to fix it.

All I can tell you for now is to open the storage bin and pull out on the underneath part of the stereo. Then push the the radio back in really hard pressing right next to the climate control *****. This should turn the lcd back on.

I wouldn't purchase any parts or pay too much to have it checked out because this is a very common problem and Honda may recall it.

If not the dealership where you bought the car should help you out. Sounds like you are out of warranty but they can put it in the books that there was a problem existing at 30k miles. This note covers that problem for life. If you dont get a free Head unit this way. CALL HONDA DIRECTLY.

contact your dealer ,there is a service bulletin on that problem,they should take care of it even if you not too far out of warranty.

the same thing happend to my accord and the dealer replace the whole radio but they didn't charge... it was covered by the warrenty... why isn't yours covered??

The warranty was for 30K miles or 5 years something like that....its now been 2 years and 40K miles and we are having lots of trouble getting them to replace it. Contacted the dealership, they denied it, will contact honda marketing and try there....a real pain in the *** this is becoming.
