Re: Misfire when cold with six CEL codes

Did you check the function of the FIT and IAC valves? Did you check the fuel filter? Did you check the fuel pressure? And why are you throwing parts at it before troubleshooting and identifying the...

Re: Timing at idle?

Base timing is mechanical timing (distributor position) of the engine without the cars Engine Control Module (the ECM or "computer) interacting with the engine timing circuit.

Re: 99 CR-V head rebuild/replacement

As LDForget said, if you're going to go that far I would replace the head, head gasket, intake and exhaust gaskets come in a head gasket set, Timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys, as well as the...

Re: 99 CR-V head rebuild/replacement

You can get a rebuilt head for about $350. Add the cost of installation and you have option #1. Option #2 is to do a compression check after a valve adjustment. IMO I would look at #2 first. You...

Re: Front passenger turn signal not working

Half your 1157 bulb is bad or you have a bad wire on one side. Since you've replaced the bulb already, I'd start chasing wiring. Did you check for voltage at both contacts with the headlights on and...

Re: 1999 CRV lx misfire, stalling engine P0300, P1399

The actual spec states Intake Valves - 0.10mm +/- 0.02 (0.003-0.005") and Exhaust Valves - 0.18mm +/- 0.02 (0.006-0.008"). Set both to the higher end of the scale, the Intakes to 0.005" and the...

Re: Re-entry into the Honda Scene via 1999 CR-V EX 5-SPD w/120k

As well that should scare you! IMO, valve lash is the number one killer of Gen-1 CR-V heads out there. All because Honda didn't want to tell the North American consumer they had a 15K miles, $100+,...

Re: 1999 CRV lx misfire, stalling engine P0300, P1399

Did you adjust, or at least check, the valve lash while you had it open?

Re: 1999 CRV lx misfire, stalling engine P0300, P1399

Certainly could be a bad tensioner. :)

Another good page from the above mentioned website. All Gen-1 CR-V owners to read and heed;

Re: AWD engagement noise

What dual pump fluid did you use in the rear differential? Honda OEM or something else? Did you check the rear stabilizer bushings?

Re: 1999 CRV P0300 - P0304

Misfires are determined by a fluctuation in the crankshaft speed as it passes through each 180* of revolution. Recheck everything you did first, then I'd be looking at fuel pressure, fuel pressure...

Re: Re-entry into the Honda Scene via 1999 CR-V EX 5-SPD w/120k

Valve issues, and specifically not adjusting them at 15-30k intervals, is probably the number 1 issue on those engines with the P75 head. A B20 NOT making any noise is reason for major concern. The...

Re: 1999 CRV lx misfire, stalling engine P0300, P1399

Sorry, since you were working on your own car, I kind of assumed you had a general idea of what you were doing. I'd suggest you find a Haynes or Honda manual, and actually read it. You might just...

Re: 1999 CRV lx misfire, stalling engine P0300, P1399

Jack up the drivers side, pull the wheel, remove the head cover, check timing belt. Check that one of the cams isn't off a tooth, then adjust the valves right away while you have the cover off.

Re: Just bought a 1998 Honda CR-V 4wd 4AT

ISSUE I:
P0420 is normally caused by an inefficient TWC (Three Way Catalytic Converter) or an exhaust leak before the secondary O2 sensor. The ECU monitors the O2 levels at the end of the Exhaust...

Re: 1999 CRV, 5speed

Valves are cooled by sitting on the valve seat and releasing the heat to the head. Loose valves sit on the seat longer and are therefore cooler than a valve sitting out in the open flame longer with...

Re: 1999 CRV, 5speed

I'd be more worried if the valves were quiet. Loose intakes will cause you far less grief than tight exhausts. The tight exhaust valves are what causes the most grief with the B20's head.

Re: Re-entry into the Honda Scene via 1999 CR-V EX 5-SPD w/120k

Congratulations and welcome back. Now go adjust your valves, if for nothing more than piece of mind. Intakes to 0.005" and exhausts to 0.008". I wouldn't leave it to chance.

Re: 1999 CRV, 5speed

For $900 on a car worth about 2000, what do you have to lose but some time and a small amount of maintenance item cash?

Re: 2001 CR-V AT B20 AIC Valve Wire Colors

Interesting how a "simple" engine swap (actually a JDM long block swap), using all of the CR-V's original components, uncovers a myriad of previously unknown issues. I travel about 50k a year for...

Re: 2001 CR-V AT B20 AIC Valve Wire Colors

Found the two cables swapped, ECU burned internally, and the IAC valve not functioning correctly anyway. The IAC was open when it should have been fully closed even though the unit clicked when 12v...
