Scrap the better filtration idea. Just change your filter and top off with fresh oil. Unless that's what you meant by better filtration.

Using regular oil, I change my oil every 8,000 to 9,000...

Did he say why fuel was not getting to the motor? That has nothing to do with octane levels. That is something else completely.

run the 87 octane. That's what the motor was designed to run.

Chances are good that the timing belt tension adjuster is too tight and needs to be readjusted. The reason the sound goes away when you speed up is that you can't hear it as the sound of the motor...

Just went through a similar experience. Remove your spark plugs and put a dowel into the spark plug hole on the drivers side ( this is cylinder #1). Rotate crank until it raises the dowel and lines...
