The only time I use synthetic in an old engine is just before a smog check - buddy is a smog tech and if the motor has any blow-by it will reduce emissions compared to dino oil. otherwise Valvoline...

My 91 EX came with cut springs in the rear and adjustable coil sleeves up front, rode decent. Put the rear coil adjuster sleeves in back and more bouncy now. Going to try a different setup soon to...
