To troubleshoot the cooling fan just use a paper clip and jump the connectors on the fan switch with the ignition on. If the fan doesnt come on then that sensor is bad.

I hooked up a multimeter and tested the resistance in the sending unit and it wasnt picking up anything. Normally the resistance should be about 4-5 ohms on a full tank right? So if its reading...

Its not by much. I only had to loosen the valves ever so slightly. What negative effect will it have? Possibly damaging lobes?
