Re: Failed smog test. 1995 Honda Civic LX

Restoring the efficiency of your CAT cannot fix an underlying issue. But it can keep some money in your pocket. Below, links to the method and evidence of my results.

Here is the method:...

Re: Failed smog test. 1995 Honda Civic LX

Learning to do this yourself is great. muellersfan is a great advisor. But if the old guy will get behind his $350 fix by agreeing to be paid only upon your passing SMOG at a site of your choice, why...

Re: Bringing life back to an abused 92 CDM VX

Good progress. Hang in there. It'll be road worthy again with all this attention to detail. The basic engineering of the thing is so good, you'll eventually get it sorted-out well enough to return it...

Re: Please post head codes from your Honda engines here

You seem to have an HX vtec-e head on a mystery D16A block managed by a DX non-vtec ECU. Does it run ok? I would think it would run poorly since the DX ECU will expect both intake valves to fully...

Re: Replacing CV boot.

I have used ordinary tools for snap rings. The last one I remember was, I think, for the hub bearing unit. Anyway, here is a good video of a guy demonstrating DIY tool options. The spec tool would be...

Re: Copart Rebuild: 97 DX Sedan

Wonderful car, man. Go get that trunk lid at the junkyard... this car is so clean and was so cheap that it is worth the extra touch. Also, props to ChryslerKid and his super clean Civic with 40+ MPG...

re: 93 Honda Civic DX - Surging Idle

Re: Takata air bag recall.. 96-2000 - And other safety items discussions.

Got my recall notice today from Honda. 1998 Civic DX coupe in Southern Cali. Just notification of the defect. Not seeking to inspect my car or do the repair yet.

Re: Yet another no start thread

Third, there are two switches in the main relay for the fuel pump. When you tested it, how did you test?

Re: Yet another no start thread

And check all the grounds in the engine bay, not just the t-stat. Remove, clean, sand to expose bare metal, tighten. I would check all of them.

Re: Yet another no start thread

Regarding just the loss of gauge lights, you say you have no fuses blown, but did you check the under dash #15 specifically? And do you have SRS? If so, #24 is correct but the wiring diagram says #12...

Re: Constant 12 Volt source for 96 Civic DX? (xEnderx)

This is a really old, dead thread from 2005. But a guide to answering the question is already in it. Read it through. Good luck.

Re: Tapping after head gasket replacement on 2000 Civic HX

Hi Xist! Glad to see you on this forum. I agree with the above: valve lash and oil circulation. Investigate both. Check valve lash before you loosen anything because if it is normal, then why adjust?...

Re: 1999 Honda Civic LX passenger wheel vibrating

Did you try swapping wheels around one at a time to see if the vibration/sound follows a wheel to a new location? It was recommended above by Swift, but you don't mention if you did it and what the...

Re: transmission issues thud and high pitched grinding97 civic ex sedan

Is the e-brake on? In other words... are brake pads dragging significantly? Also, when you checked AT fluid level how did you do it... what procedure?

This is a four year old thread. I suggest you start a new one and give the forum details on your specific situation. You'll probably get more response.

Re: 98 civic LX Automatic - Dies and will not shift from park

Is the Check Engine light on, and if it is what are the codes? Any pending codes? Also, it sounds like a failure that is aggravated by heat soak... as the car runs, something gradually gets hot...

Re: Typical surging idle/hunting idle and high idle

I would wait with valve lash until after I knew the condition of the head gasket better. Your borderline out of spec low compression test results suggest that either the head gasket or the valves...

Re: Typical surging idle/hunting idle and high idle

My bad. You're right... valves but not valve seals. Still, its not the rings most likely, given the wet results, and if his head gasket is not bigly leaking, at least part, maybe most of his loss in...

Re: Typical surging idle/hunting idle and high idle

My 98 Civic D16Y7 engine has 274,000 miles as of Wednesday and still runs beautifully too. I did the headgasket at about 240,000 maybe. But valves, valve seals, rings... all original.
OP, unless...
