Re: What would break a cam?

Probably a combination of heat from no lubrication, a manufacturing defect and the shock from the valves.

Re: Squealing Serpentine/Fan Belt

Glazed belts/pulleys. Misaligned pulleys. Half an inch sounds like it might be too much, the spec for my Accord is 10mm of deflection with 10kg of force. Though if as a result of slipping the pulleys...

Re: First startup of 2.3 ULEV F23A4 Swap, white smoke like crazy!!!

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about white smoke from an engine that hasn't run for a while. My CRX smoked white like crazy for a while after I brought it out of storage.

Re: Tensioning Serpentine Belt (No Tensioner)

Noise is the same no matter where the clutch is. It always happens after I let the key out. (If I ride the key after the engine starts briefly, it won't happen until I release the key). So pretty...

Re: Tensioning Serpentine Belt (No Tensioner)

Sounds like you were right on the money on the starter. The screech will 'move' depending on when I release the key. If i let it go early the noise happens just as the engine comes to life, little...

Re: Tensioning Serpentine Belt (No Tensioner)

Well, the screech isn't the belt. Got someone else to start it with ears on engine and it comes from the clutch area. My guess is pilot/throwout bearing, yay. Weird it only ever does it on cold...

Tensioning Serpentine Belt (No Tensioner)

So I've determined that my belt needs adjusting (get a screech on startup when its cold). Spec for the belt is 10mm of deflection with 10 KG of force and I can quite easily push it further than that...

Re: 1999 Accord stronger vibration when idling, after service

If it's not misfiring then it's probably just that the idle was lowered. BTW 10w40 is generally a good weight for an engine that isn't brand new for NZ. I used 15w40 once on a CRX and the engine...

Re: Not impressed with Honda engineering

You can't base your opinions of two makes on only two models. There are piss easy Honda's to work on, and there are pain in the ass Toyota's.

Re: Blower motor troubles

Yes the blower resistors are a common culprit for blower issues, although you said that it used to be intermittent now a permanent fault. That sounds more like a loose connection, the resistors...

Re: CF4 help!

Relaying info from a thread I started about my CF4: there are apparently very few JDM CF4's in the States, so you'll have a hard time getting information from a primarily-US based forum.

Re: Engine mount question.

I didn't have to raise the engine at all for a front engine mount. The front and rear mounts are only really torque mounts, that is to stop the engine torqing when you let the clutch out etc. With...

Re: How to adjust dash brightness

Interesting one isn't it... Turns out that there's a company here that, since we have so many JDM imports, translates the owners manual into English and re-sells them. Might pick one of them up, even...
