Re: welding curb rash

You might do some research on how strength is reduced in aluminium alloys if you overheat them. It seems obvious, but a wheel is a stressed part that you depend on at speeds higher than 5 MPH, and...

Re: Recent exhaust work

See the "closed threads" thread. Administrators/moderators closed several threads of people who were not paying vendors, just posting up their great fab work.

As a result, a number of the main...

Re: post pics of your aluminum welds...

Weldingweb.com in the For Sale section. Miller Aerowave, I recall. Marcella is selling the welder and posted these pics of what it could do (only with him on the torch, through :) )

Re: closed threads?

This is a real shame. I came here ONLY for the fabrication threads.

Trying to follow dozens of individual Facebook pages is cumbersome, and the integrated comments that are found on threads here...

Re: ground clamp

Some people recommend taking a foot or so of copper welding cable, stripping it to bare wire, and wrapping the bare wire around the pipe several times, then clamping the ground to the ends of the...

Re: stainless flaring tool

There are several high end flaring tools for SS tubing available.

For those who don't want to go through the brain damage of flaring, or can't get a flaring tool in an already installed location,...

Re: whats good for machining flanges flat

Many parts are not flat on both sides, and are flattened in a mill or blanchard grinder. It just takes a fixture to hold the part, which is a common part made everyday for this in the grinding...

Re: Stainless steel vs mild steel Manifolds!!!

There is a reason that most high end manifolds are made of SS, Inconel or titanium. The reasons include better metal characteristics, including strength and corrosion resistance. Try to find a...

Re: whats good for machining flanges flat

A mill or blanchard grinder is the standard. Belt sanders don't match up.

Re: need help!!!! texas residents especially!

Cam bores can be align-bored, but as you have found, it's time-consuming and thus expensive. For most heads, good cores are less expensive than the machine work needed.

If you need this work...

Re: what size rod for welding this manifold

Looks like a schedule 40 with wide prep bevel. Root and cap passes, I'd guess. Pictures not good enough to tell much more.

Airgas local welding stores all across the country have Radnor parts that are private branded Weldcraft torch front end parts. They have WP9/20 standard gas lenses which take cups up to #8, and...

The options depend on what kind of pipe you're talking about. Pipe fitters who weld large iron pipe have a variety of (expensive) specialized fixtures available to buy and some make their own custom...

Re: What gas lens and what size cup is best for me

I found that Airgas has better prices on lens and cups than E-Bay does. They are a large nationwide welding supply store and you may have one in your area.

You'll likely need a specific collet...

Re: trying to weld 304 ss sch 10 manifold some constructive criticism please

The 15 is much shorter (more stubby) than the 10 and 12, for some reason.

Re: trying to weld 304 ss sch 10 manifold some constructive criticism please

Weldcraft makes a large stubby gas lens for the 9/20 torch series that accepts 10,12, and 15 size cups. Looks like a coffee cup compared to the standard gas lens and an 8 size cup... :)

I got...

Re: ToxicFab's Fabrication pics!

That's what we all do. Doesn't look like yours :) In particular, I was asking what is the way that you get a wide bead without a weave pattern or burning up the part with a wide puddle?

Re: ToxicFab's Fabrication pics!

Colin,

Looks great, as usual. Would you describe how you get the wide flange welds without the "weave" pattern that is commonly seen? Settings and technique would be much appreciated... :)
