but if you do go with your route instead of drilling a hole you could just use a sharp narrow punch and push new holes thru that rubber piece that the wires already pass thru

Why dont you just leave the icm and coil in the dist then remove the coil neg that way the circuit will be dead, hot but dead it wont fire the coil also you can choose to unplug the tach output and...
