Icon2 88 CRX transmission/engine compatability questions.

Can I bolt up a CRX 88 motor to a 89-91 transmission? I read the only thing different is the spline count. So can't I just use an 88 clutch and it will work?

Re: 88 CRX transmission compatability questions.

An 88 transmission will bolt up to an 89-91 motor so if the only thing is in contact between the two is the flywheel then why are they not compatible?

Re: 88 CRX transmission compatability questions.

Why are they not compatible due to spline count then? shouldn't the engines and transmissions be able to be swapped with each other if it is just a different clutch?

Re: 88 CRX transmission compatability questions.

Sorry, I am not fully understanding. The transmission and engine only contact through the flywheel and clutch plate. That is why I don't understand. Why does the spline count even matter?

So...

I searched the archives and could not find the answer.

I understand that the 88 trans/motors are not interchangeable with the 89-91 because of spline count. I was wondering what it would take to...
