I personally have seen paint jobs that are worth the money coming out of Maaco.

Sometimes its about having the car look halfway decent and Maaco is awesome for that I think.

From what I know you sand with ~220, then 400.
Then put on base and then re-sand with 220 and 400
Clean and tack cloth
Paint (gotta use...

My car is doing something similar - it idles low and engine shakes a bit. It's just fine in the upper end but feels like its low on power.
