Re: 98 Accord VTec Timing Belt Replaced and change in 'attitude'

@Ghost - No, they did NOT adjust the valves. Also, I was surprised to notice they did NOT unhook the battery [my radio was fine and they don't have the code]. I think you are right about the VTEC -...

Re: 98 Accord VTec Timing Belt Replaced and change in 'attitude'

The IDLE is the only thing that is still erratic. Sometimes it sits right at the 'second white mark' on the TAC and idles perfect, then suddenly [hot or cold] it will drop to the "first white mark"...

98 Accord VTec Timing Belt Replaced and change in 'attitude'

1998 Honda Accord with VTEC 4cyl engine. Had timing belt replaced at a shop a week ago and am trying to convince myself the car does NOT run differently. 225k miles.

Before the car went in, it...

Re: how many miles does your accord have on it?

98 Accord - 220,000 - no major work. Runs excellent. 4cyl VTec still fast.

1998 Accord Timing Belt 4cyl

I'm about to replace the timing belt on my "1998 Honda Accord vTec 4cyl" myself. This will be the biggest [most complex] automotive task I've done in 30'ish years. I would appreciate you all taking...

Re: 1996 Honda Odyssey - low idle and dying

@trahmah - Unfortunately, I've missed the opportunity to snap a good photo and the weather has finally gone kaput. Quite frankly, I'm sure you are correct about the connection, because I have only...

Re: 1996 Honda Odyssey - low idle and dying

@trahmah - Thanks for the post. Interesting. Now my IAC seems clean, moving freely, and very simplistic in design. Still, I'm not getting any ideas anywhere else.

Maybe when Spring rolls around...

Re: 1996 Honda Odyssey - low idle and dying

@sivikvtec - Thanks for the daig. I actually have the exact same shot from the dealership. They printed it for me when I picked up TB, EGR, & IAC gasket/o-rings.

I actually pulled the IAC...

Re: 1996 Honda Odyssey - low idle and dying

@Ross - Thanks for the reply. I actually was surfing You Tube just now trying to find a video showing EGR and IAC location/cleaning on a 2.2 NON-VTec engine like the one in my 1996 Ody. Since the...

1996 Honda Odyssey - low idle and dying

Any advice appreciated. Own a 1996 Honda Odyssey with 170k that is idling real low RPM and has started dying frequently when slowing to a stop, or turning while not under acceleration.

Replaced: ...

Re: 1996 Honda Accord transmission slipping when cold and setting CEL

Old thread, but just an update. Took your advice Mustang, and stuck a fork in it. Sold the car and came out a few dollars ahead. Found a dealer who already had a donor car and he scooped it up. :)

Re: Nasty noise in reverse!!!

It was ALL brakes. I thought I'd done the back brakes, but was confused with my other old Honda. Replaced the pads and NO noise. :)

Re: Nasty noise in reverse!!!

My 1998 Accord EX just started making this weird "moose whine" noise from the rear, but only in reverse. It started immediately after the car sat in the driveway a week while we were gone for...

My '98 with Vtec 4cyl seems superior in performance, realiabilty, and design in all ways to my two '96 models.

The most amazing thing to me is the engine has 195,000 miles and not a leak, no...

I'm not a mechanic, but wanted to add something I thought was relevant to this post.

Icon2 1996 Honda Accord transmission slipping when cold and setting CEL

Hello,

I own a 1996 Honda Accord (4cyl) with automatic transmission. I picked it up with a badly slipping transmission. After cycling Honda ATF (expensive) through it a few times I've ended...
