Re: 1985 CRX HF 126k $1,950

It sold for $1500 for those that are curious. I think the "big attraction" to this car was the fact that it was an HF that was designed primarily for fuel economy. It has an HF specific transmission,...

Re: Slipping clutch and horrible (rubbing) noise upon lifting throttle

Yes, the input shaft bearing lost it's cage and the balls were riding against each other ans the shaft itself riding on the transmission case with I believe causes the worst of the whirring/metal on...

Re: Replacing oil fouled clutch, how clean does the housing need to be?

EDIT: it was the high temp grease that came with the clutch. Either way...too late now

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does float, and the nut does hold the countershaft up. My roommate was correct after all....

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

The update you've all been waiting for...pictures!

Ok, so the blocking plates came apart from the gears and the countershaft is looking good as a whole. After that I went to investigate the...

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

Update:Got the tranny out in under an hour. That includes changing, getting tools, jacks etc, and a little bit of watching my roommate play portal 2. I think I'm getting better at this...not bad for...

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

There are no pictures, but I can scan the manual and take some random shots with the end cap off if that helps, though you will be able to see nothing. I didn't touch the gear stack at all. Once it...

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

Took the end cap off and 5th was not engaged. I can see the 3rd/4th shift fork through a port in the transmission with the end cap off, and I can see the 1st/2nd synchro sleeve go into 2nd, and...

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

The last bit of info that I can think to add is that if I just turn one tire forward, it will go, but the other moves the opposite direction. I assume this is just the internals of the diff doing...

Re: 85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

Let me also add that there was no oil in the trans, but that the gears were oiled for initial start up.

85 crx can only find second gear after transmission rebuild. 5th gear synchro?

I finally got my transmission together and what I was worried about all along happened. Everything feels pretty locked up and I can only find 2nd gear.

I thought I followed the manual pretty well,...

Re: Replacing oil fouled clutch, how clean does the housing need to be?

I figured it was just designed without one, and the clutch fits cars that have one, so they include it anyway. Behind the flywheel is MUCH cleaner and dryer than the front, meaning only my input...

Re: Replacing oil fouled clutch, how clean does the housing need to be?

Thanks, you have been more than helpful. I used the two impact guns attached to my shoulders....SHAZAM!!!

But on a more serious note. There is no where that I see to put the pilot bearing. The...

Re: Replacing oil fouled clutch, how clean does the housing need to be?

Any tips for a mere human to get those bolts off? I feel like I will break the motor mount off before I get the first bolt loose.

Re: Replacing oil fouled clutch, how clean does the housing need to be?

Fairly certain that it was the input shaft seal that was leaking, but I do not see a way to easily hold the flywheel still while I use a breaker bar to loosen the bolts. And at 76ft/lbs with an...

Replacing oil fouled clutch, how clean does the housing need to be?

Long story short, I have stopped the leak and I am replacing my clutch. The transmission housing is very clean and dry, but the engine side behind the flywheel is very dirty and oily still.

I have...
