Re: Cars stolen from Honda Day @ ATCO 2011

You have to be an absolute f***ing moron to attend one of those "shows" with a car that you actually value. Hell I wouldn't even take a Honda rental car there for fear that some piece of trash would...

Re: does anybody have a link to how to: re clear coat carbon fiber?

Re-clearing a faded carbon hood is as simple as prepping a blend panel when doing a standard collision repair job -- DA sander with interface pad + 800 grit dry.. sand the whole thing, scuff the...

Re: Paint shops in the northeast

Wait, so you're looking for a cheap paint shop, but you're willing to drive 200+ miles to find one? Does not compute.

Re: How to remove molded fiberglass/body kit?

Cut-off wheel to cut the body filler apart where the body lines should be. Use a combination of grinding discs and sandpaper, etc. until you get all of the fiberglass and filler removed from the...

Re: How much do you think this would cost

/\ What he said.

I was going to type up a full reply last night but really it's pointless to ask online, just go get an estimate.

It's a pretty big job to do it right.

Re: 1100 just getting my door repainted??

It is not at all difficult to rack up $1,100 worth of body and paint labor, especially on an insurance job. People forget that straight insurance work is 'by the book' in the most literal sense, and...

Re: how come there are mutilple shades for 1 paint code?

Basically, within each paint code, all variants will look identical to each other when on different cars, even when those cars are sitting next to each other. Within G-511M Galapagos Green, Sherwin...

Re: how come there are mutilple shades for 1 paint code?

A paint code isn't just a "mix the right code and it matches" affair. There are different variations, or alternates, of each color code. As you mentioned Charlie, there are some alternates that are...

Re: filling emblem holes

use a grinder to rough up the backside of the holes and do the same to the front. Grind a bit of a divot on the front if you want, it doesn't matter.. just don't remove a lot of metal. Cut a patch...

Re: Best paint for the money.

Omni is what we use for some quick jobs and it's decent. It dyes-back easily if you get a heavy hand so make sure you spray each coat as recommended... don't just load it on there each coat.

Re: painting in the winter?

Close everything off and crank that heater up full blast. Get it as hot as possible in there. Buy a cheap digital thermometer somewhere so you can watch the temp. Put it across the garage away from...

Re: Dark Purple Paint Code?

There's a good chance it's not paint at all. It looks like a few powdercoat color combinations I've seen before. Maybe a candy purple over polished or over a "chrome" powder.

Re: How many quarts of pain do i need for my 96 civic dx coupe?

Lots of suppliers are very uneducated about new procedures and products. It's typical of the 'auto parts store paint shop' where they bought a complete system 15 years ago to mix paint on the spot...

Re: How many quarts of pain do i need for my 96 civic dx coupe?

lol. No. Being a good painter has very little to do with how much color is required for coverage. Sure a good painter knows his materials and how to stretch them or where he needs extra material for...

Re: How many quarts of pain do i need for my 96 civic dx coupe?

Milano Red is not tri-coat and it has no pearl or metallic flake in it. It's a solid red base/clear. There are some tri-coat formulas which are old versions, but every paint manufacturer has...

Re: what would be the best sander to prep your car

Why? Is the paint damaged? Unless the current coating is failing or unless you know for a fact that the previous job was done horribly then just leave it alone and prep it normally. The only other...

The compressor will work...

Re: Itr sides on civic

You would only need to cut them apart and extend them using standard fiberglass/plastic repair processes followed by standard body work and paint. Make sure tabs/holes/mounts line up and you're goo...

That's not hard to understand at all... and neither is the advice I gave a few posts up. Go talk to your local paint supplier. Walk into the store and explain what you want. They'll guide you to your...

Re: Anyone familar with PPG DBC (Deltron 2000)??

Some pics would help. I don't really understand what you mean about the previous paint lifting. The new basecoat should have no effect on the old. My guess is it's that there was a prep problem and...
