well not to bump this thread but you are right ,taking apart the car really is the best education tool. just did the timing belt and water pump job this xmas to fix a leaky seal and it fixed...

well I think I finally found the cause of the noise, the flywheel cover (red circle) I think was installed wrongly (my fault), I removed and reinstalled the exhaust pipe 'A' and the engine stiffener...

you need to drill out the shear bolts in order to assess the steering lock assembly:

have you checked if the caliper slide pins are lubed and sliding freely? I had a similar noise and found that the grease on the slide pins had dried up.

like everyone else has said your tires need to be checked for balance as for sure it will play a part in your vibration problems, its not an expensive job and you can eliminate tires as a cause.

you can test the inner by doing the same thing as the guy in the video:

1) take out the outer tie rod and:

2) yank on the inner tie rod shaft to feel for play in the inner tie rod ball joints....

thats a sign of bad tie rods...if they were good the other wheel would turn together when you shake it as they would be no play (go to 1:40, really bad play):

you could always get a FREE replacement from part source and try it out, it unlikely you will get TWO bad axels in a row , and if it still fails then get a refund.
