Re: The Blue Coupe

Exciting!

For peace of mind you could consider running a straight edge down the length before putting the new gasket down.

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

It looks fantastic now. My only point of trouble would be the side marker lights. Are they a legal requirement?

I was in a 3-day rally a couple of weekends ago as the co-driver in a GTM coupe...

Re: The Blue Coupe

Both setups appear to be original. Page 167 of the service manual shows the breather tube connected to the top front of the breather passage. It looks as if this tube is 17122-504-010 in Section E-14...

Re: Another S600 roadster, some pics & history

I think this car is about to change hands http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=161056443202. Bidding picked up after the auction was written up by Bring-A-Trailer and it has...

Re: S600 Coupe Off frame restoration

Seeing the fuel pump reminds me of a cautionary tale related to the compatibility of gasket materials with ethanol-blended fuel. In my part of the world, gasoline contains up to 10% ethanol, with...

Re: The Blue Coupe - Master Cylinders

The baffles sit in the internal groove about halfway down the reservoirs and, in my case, are essential to avoiding leakage at the cap. It took me a while to figure this out but it doesn't seem to...

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

There's so much more than cars in this thread. Thank you for driving me to look up the Gengo date system, which I'd not heard of before! I have a boxed NOS rotor button for the S600. The box is old...

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

I thought of your clock project on Sunday when I was at a British car show. On display was a hand-built special with a most unusual dashboard and console. Its display card said that the owner-builder...

Re: The Blue Coupe

The shorter piston looks like an original part to me but I had no idea the cylinders were available in different bore lengths. The push rods rounded ends should fit well into the cup on the outer end...

Re: The Blue Coupe

I don't think that part of the pipe is visible because of the way the engine is canted over. Still, there might be a cleaner header out there not too far away.

Re: The Blue Coupe - clutch slave cylinder

I've always (last decade?) found the clutch cylinder hard to bleed in place. I've not found a vacuum bleeder as effective as it should be and have been doing it the old fashioned way until it barely...

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

More than the low number of fuses (my Europa has just two and I think five is probably an improvement), it's the simplicity of the wiring and the complete absence of electronics that I like.

My...

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

You have four-way flashers?? Now that's luxury! One more advantage of cars from this period is a wiring diagram that fits conveniently onto one (small) sheet of paper.

Re: The Blue Coupe

Nice looking lining. The last time I had a clutch disc redone, it came back with similar looking material. It had a noticeably softer, more progressive bite than before, was easier to control and...

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

The wiring loom inside my engine compartment is wrapped with silver tape. Aside from a slight yellowing of the original with age, I found a great match at my local hardware store. I've re-wrapped...

Re: 1969 S800M Coupe.

Have you installed a headlight relay? The current draw of any decent headlight today is higher than it was for an original. The originals drew only 70 watts on high beam, something like 50-60 on low...

Re: The Blue Coupe

I deplore the switch from newspapers to towels -- less to read in each post :) Looks lovely, though. I had my clutch relined at the same place that did my brake shoes, but not recently and I wonder...

Re: The Blue Coupe

I looked at my spare gearbox to see if it would provide a clue but the drive gears have been removed. Sorry.
