Re: Can you put new clear coat over old clear coat?

if so i wouldn't go too low of grit. 1500-2000 just to scuff it up enough. I have never had to clear on top of old clear but when you miss the spraying window after you originally spray base you have...

Re: what oem paint color brand to get?

not all milano reds are tri-coats it depends on the manufacture you bought the paint from. we spray sikkens paint and the milano red that we shot awhile ago was just basecoat/clearcoat.

Re: Paint price

it's hard to give a estimate online due to the fact that every shop uses different materials and charges different labor fees. if you are on a budget go to maaco otherwise be in for 1000 - 5000

Re: rust repair gone bad. HELP

definitely try using a different primer. A lot of the time the stuff in the rattle can is lacquer based and it will hold moisture. When you use something like that it tends to end up bubbling or rust...

Re: The "$50 Paint Job" Thread

traditionally I do 2-3 coats base and 2 coats clear.

Yeah use lots of water and let the sand paper do the work. no need to throw out your shoulder trying to sand it. just use 1200 - 2000. only use...

Re: The "$50 Paint Job" Thread

I would watch out using a grit like that for color sanding. if you have very bad orange peel start with 1200 > 1500 > 2000. Otherwise you have to be very careful on burning through depending on how...

Re: how to prep sideskirts

there is a difference in between 600 and 800 grit. 600 will leave too many scratches that quite possibly will show through when you paint. if you like scratches under your paint then power to you.

Re: how to prep sideskirts

a lot of people just use a scuff pad but yes it would be 800 wet.

primer - 400 wet
base - 800 wet

Re: how to prep sideskirts

since it's a plastic part never use dry sand paper. Always use WET!
make sure to use a fair amount of water when sanding.

if there is a ton of layers of paint you may need 400 wet > 600 > 800...
