easy task.
Take a hack saw and cut 2 slits through the bushing and the metal ring. Keep cutting until you get to the lca material.
Once your 2 slits are done, put a socket on top of the bushing...

I did the opposite. I cut a hole just big enough to fit a wrench on the nut and got the job done.

The top doesn't take that much space in the trunk. It only cuts down on the trunk "height". And with the top off, possibilities are even greater if you need to move bigger items.

Thank you very much for all your help. Without your contribution to this thread I'd still be scratching my head wondering what to do.

I did with sand paper. I sanded both the t-stat housing, and the copper connector.
I feel confident saying the grounding point is good, because I get a good reading on the multimeter when I connect...

BAM!
No continuity on either connectors.

Now... do they have to be grounded on t-stat? Can I at least temporarly gound it to the chassis right beside the ECU until I get the car home?

As easy as cutting the Blk/Red and Brn/Blk wires and run new ones?
Do they have to run to the t-stat housing? Are those the only 2 wires that connect to that ground location?

I tested the pins directly on the ecu, not the terminals in the pastic holder...
I'm'a do it right when it stops pouring out there.
