The previous owner of my car had installed a Revo shifter at some point. I don't know how old it is, or for how many miles it was used, but regardless of that, it has failed in an unacceptable...

As was stated earlier, it sounds like cut wires (or the main battery cable) shorting somewhere on the chassis. This is one repair I'd leave to professionals.

Any issues you're having with the engine are entirely unrelated to the blower or cabin filter, that's for sure.

I'm thinking of trying the hammer first, though there isn't a lot of room between the engine and the firewall to swing a hammer.
