Re: reman trans acting up

What have you every seen out of Honda in the area of automatic transmissions to think that OEM parts would be better than even china parts? With other manufacturers, I am sure that you are right,...

Re: 98 Accord tranny probs

Flush is not recommended. Can you call the place that did it and find out what type of fluid they put in? Sounds like the fluid is wrong.

Re: Transmission Cooler

I agree, but if you want it to last the longest, then put some high quality synthetic Dex III in there. There is not enough grab in the honda Z1 for a boosted car.

Check your motor mounts - especially the torque strut (it looks like this, although not right for your car, in the front of the engine...

Re: Changing the trans fluid.

That is the right procedure. It will all mix. It is OK to mix it. The fluid in the torque converter will not drain out, but will mix in several minutes with the new fluid once you start the car. ...

Re: Changing the trans fluid.

I think that Honda has just approved a certain type of flush for most of their vehicles - I saw a TSB about it somewhere. However, the 3x drain and refill is always effective and probably the only...

Re: Changing the trans fluid.

Drain it with the plug and then 2.5 quarts back in. It is really easy.

I just traded in my 92 last month the day that it hit 400K. It got a new transmission at 60K and the next one lasted 340K...

Re: 99 4 cyl Tranny Bad or Pressure Switch?

Yours appears to be TCM related. I replied on your other thread.

Re: 1994 Honda Accord Transmission Acting up?

I had a 92 with a similar problem. I got a tcm from a junkyard and it cured my issues. I have no idea if this would work on a 94.

If you can cannot read the codes tcu, then replace it.

99 4 cyl Tranny Bad or Pressure Switch?

Car does a late shift from 1st to 2nd under moderate to heavy load and also from 2nd to first when downshifting around 5MPH. When accelerating, you can feel the car shift, but the RPMs climb a bit...

Re: 96 Honda Accord too much smoke at the exhaust when starting up

How is the coolant level? If the oil is still full, then it could be coolant that you are burning.

The oil in the plug chamber is not getting into the cylinder - don't sweat that.

Re: temp needle drops when accelerating

Check the connector - it is easy.

If not that, then thermostat. You don't want to run one even stuck open - cooling the water jacket too much will cause increased wear and decreased fuel economy.

Re: temp needle drops when accelerating

The thermostat could be stuck open causing an influx of cool(er) coolant from the radiator, rather than closing a little bit to regulate the temperature.

I would check/change the thermostat.

Re: Transmission Reliability... All Generations of Honda Accord. Which is best?

Many cars that you look at will likely have a rebuilt transmission. I would not be scared of a car with a rebuilt transmission. My 92 got a new tranny at 60K and I have 360K+ now - the rebuilt...

Re: 2000 honda accord transmission problems

What is your fluid level and condition?

It might need a new tranny, but check out the fluid first.

What is the specific code that it is giving?

Re: Trans Cooler - necessary???

I might only have 300K on my tranny, but it has only ever seen dex/merc III. The honda fluid is just dex/merc III with a bunch (even more since dex/merc already has some) of Friction Modifiers added...

Re: Trans Cooler - necessary???

If you want your tranny to last longer, ditch the Z1 for some high-quality Dex/Merc III. The Z1 is garbage unless your only goal is soft shifts and short tranny life.

If you do want to use the...

Re: transmission on 90 accord

You cannot change the filter - there is a filter/screen, but it is internal.

There is a drain plug that uses a 3/8" drive to remove. Drain the fluid and then refill with the correct amount - this...

Re: $ to replace timing belt and water pump ?

That is a good price. Inquire about the shaft seals (if applicable to your engine) as well.

It is about $100 in parts for just the belt and water pump and about $200 in parts for the seals,...

Re: 92 Accord Coupe, Rev limit 3500, CEL constant on

Same issue in a co-workers 1992. New ECU (well, used from a junkyard that was known good) did the trick.

Other downside is that it will likely need stripped and re-primered if you ever do want to paint it and have it look good.

It also might not be the mounts.

Re: Accord Jerks During 2-1 Downshift

Get rid of the Z1. The Z1 is an OK base that is full of Friction Modifiers that make for a smoother shift allowing the clutches to slip. This slipping will cause more wear, but does make for a...
