I use the medium durameter bushing rating, I was told from a guy @ hasport that even erick aguilar runs the medium one.... the full race is really for off-road vehicles and stupid shit like that,...

yeah dont ever just move the distributor around like that, your messing up the ignition timing by doing so, especially advancing it. Valve adjustment sounds right, get one done if u can't do it...

ive had similar results with an ITR motor I put in someones crx... it turned out the stock p30 we were running it off of ( obd-1 converted) just wasnt aggressive enough, it basically felt like a b16....

well my best suggestion in the car is to jack the motor up as high as u can on the driverside so u got clearance, use some left handed drill bits or screw extractors, drill into the middle of each...
